LIV Golf officials are reportedly in talks with the R&A over the inclusion of at least some of its players in next year’s Open Championship. But where does this stop? We start with The Open? i’s then the Masters, then the USPGA and the US OPEN golf?

Are LIV golf using this as a to get around the world rankings points loss? the big question is will LIV golf whoa re in talks with the R&A get spots for the Open in 2024?

  1. My guess is the PIF will work out something like the top 5 on the LIV tour get a spot in the open? The rest would need to go through qualifying.

  2. I don't see how only having 4 possible events where the best players play together is good for golf in anyway. Sure those 4 events will be great, but the rest of the product suffers? I want the players to make money, but LIV is ruining golf for the fans. Sure it's given us a lot of talking points of who will go, what will happen next, but in the long run the fans end up losing out.

  3. OWGR is corrupt, has been used a s tool to destroy the DPWT, and is now not valid in any real golf fans eyes if they being objective. So give them and other tours spots. If not, most of the major fields will be the exact same as the PGAT ones as they are the only one that can qualify via OWGR. If you love golf, and want to support golf worldwide and the other tours, you should be behind this. If you want to only watch the PGAT players at majors, then be against it, but remember what happens to the other tours as well, not just LIV.

  4. Just fix the world rankings system. BUT – and it’s a big but – LIV events should carry nowhere near the points of a PGA or DP World event.

The reality is that while Brooks, Bryson et al are amongst the best in the world right now, how will we know that’s still the case in two or three or five years when they play against less competitive fields over 54 holes?

It would be like a marathon runner insisting they deserve to be in the olympics, but only ever running in 30km events.

Maybe you’re still a great marathoner, but how would we know when you never run marathons?

  5. I don't miss any Liv players! The Ryder Cup was so much better without the US gold diggers as are the Majors! Golf is a sport, not a multi national business ; Bobby Jones must be turning in his grave relentlessly!

  6. If your mission statement is about "openess" – "“The Open is golf’s original Championship and since it was first played in 1860, openness has been fundamental to its ethos and unique appeal." Then why would such an organization outsource its ability to decide who should play in your tournament. I mean, the Open has existed since 1860 and world ranking points didn't exist until 1986…so, you're telling me that after 126 years the R/A is unable w/out others telling them who to put on their little tourney? If you leave 30-40 best players out of your tournament then that is factually a political decision and it taints the tradition you so dearly tell everyone you stand for.

  7. Golf is what it is, and players earn the type of money they do because sponsors know where the value lies….because of golf fans and followers. If it weren't for the golf fans and followers, golfers will just be playing for prestige and as a hobby…and the PGA would just be a bunch of unpaid volunteers organizing events purely for the love of the game. So, maybe these golf-elites should think about that and rather concentrate on what golf fans and followers want….and a growing number of us love LIV and are getting more and more p-off and pushed away from PGA with their (and their associates like OWGR) monopoly and bully-tactics. With regards to the 4 majors…they should be independent if they want the champion (not PGA player) golfer in the world for that major, and should be able to invite players they think are one of the top players in the world at the time. If a certain major don't use that criteria, maybe that major should loose their status as a major and be just a PGA event….just saying

  8. And how may LIV players??? They just got denied OWGR, so they're buying there way in for just those few matches, integrity down the drain…..

  9. They would have been talking to the majors all along. They would have expected this.

One thing that did occur to me is if PGADP recused themselves then it would have been mainly the majors who would have voted on the OWGA inclusion. Have they deliberately blocked them so they can do deals direct with PIF ? Bit of a conflict of interest there then !

Oh and PGA Championship is not run by the PGA tour. It's the PGA of America.

  10. The DP World Tour has been gutted by the PGAT, Liv should buy the DP tour, with the best of the DP tour can qualify on to liv with promotion and demotion from the DP tour only. The larger purses and the chance to qualify, everyone will want to play on the DP tour, eventually the monopoly of the PGAT will end, everyone will want to play and qualify for the higher paid events. Don't forget the PGAT was formed by Jack in the 70s due to the PGA keeping all the money the way the PGAT does now!

  11. You guys always say "Saudi" backed to make ir sounds negative. I stopped watching boring PGA years ago and started watching LIV and enjoy it.

  12. Most people don’t like change. The LIV tour is change and the product is developing into a major viewing event internationally. The PGA wouldn’t change their product…. So LIV was born. Oh….. this business of human rights issues. We look the other way when China is mentioned. Yes we know where our golf stuff comes from. The majors must have the best players play otherwise there may be an asterisk after next years major winners. 14:08

  13. Many people like the LIV concept and the wonderful players involved. What we should be talking about is how to get the best players being in the majors.
