A trip to the ‘82 Open was Dad’s 18th birthday gift to me. After following Watson’s every shot during that final round, we ended up in the front of the gallery to the right of the 17th green, which was the closest the gallery could get on that hole. As Watson was getting ready to hit that chip I muttered “Get it close, Tom”. My Dad replied: “He’s not getting it close; he is going to hole it.” A guy standing next to my Dad rolled his eyes at my Dad’s prediction. When Watson holed the shot my Dad let out a big “I told you so” and the guy standing next to my Dad walked away as fast as he could. LOL As we were walking up the 18th hole I asked my Dad what made hm make that prediction because it was a hard shot to even get close to that hole (if that chip hadn’t gone in, the ball would have gone 15-20 feet past the hole). My Dad said he had an overwhelming feeling that made him certain that Watson was going to hole that chip shot, as if he had already seen it happen. My Dad is gone now, but this is one memory I have with him that is as clear today as if it happened yesterday. This experience was not only a great birthday gift for me, but also one of the Best Father’s Day for my Dad. Here’s to you Pops.

I'm going golfing after watching that again.
Incredible.
My hometown boy. Incredible shot.
The best shot under pressure in golf history.
