Hi everyone!

Welcome to episode 141 of the Golf Show.

It’s that time of year again when the nights start to draw in and the leaves begin to fall from the trees…

In this episode Paul explains Winter Rules (also known as Preferred Lies). There are several local changes that golf courses can apply that give you the opportunity to play your best golf even in the worst conditions. Are you aware of them, or are you missing out?

We hope you enjoy watching this episode as much as we did making it.

  1. Agreed, always mark your ball Paul. It's a good habit to get into, that way you don't cock up when Winter rules aren't in place.
Are you having 'limited use' fairway mats in play at Fulford this year, or hasn't your committee decided on that yet? It's one of the things we'll be discussing in Geeens tomorrow evening 🤔🤔🤔

  2. Thanks Paul. I particularly found the part about the casual water in the bunker useful. I didn't know about the 1 stroke penalty aspect to it if there is no available relief in the bunker. Makes sense of course 👍

  3. 10.25 Paul here,
1st time I've seen your videos I will look at more . AM I CORRECT HERE EMBEDDED BALL IN THE ROUGH I CAN MARK CLEAN PLACE BACK OR DROP IT ?

  4. High again , Paul here , WHAT about A SOD OR JOCKEY OR JUST MUCK OFF FAIRWAY ON THE BALL CAN I CLEAN IT OR A LOCAL RULE DOES NOT ALLOW IT.

  5. Paul once more not the host.
I would like clarification on 2 rules please
    1st
ARE ALL HAZZARDS NOW PENALTY AREAS SUPPOSED TO BE RED STAKES. ?
If so our course has a stupid system . IN A YELLOW STAKE AREA WE CAN
    GROUND OUR CLUB .
BUT CAN NOT DROP OUT TO LEFT OR RIGHT UNDER 1 STROKE PENALTY WHERE RED STAKE WOULD ALLOW.
it is half cocked this rule here.
    OTHER
OB , OUR CLUB STILL SAYS ITS STROKE AND DISTANCE NOT AS USGA AND R&A SAY DROP OUT UNDER PENALTY OF 1 OR 2 STROKES UNSURE ON THE STROKE'S .
    Paul

  6. MUSIC NO BECAUSE OF THE SHIT PLAYED THESE DAYS WOULD RILE ME UP . THIS BOOM BOOM BOOM YET IF IT WAS SOMETHING LIKE CLASSICAL MUSIC THAT WOULD BE A SOOTHING THING . BESIDES I PLAY GOLF FOR FUN AND TO GET AWAY FROM THAT , ITS THAT BAD NOW YANKS LIKE KOEPKA SPIT NOT ONLY ON FAIRWAYS BUT ON GREENS AND I FOR ONE DO NOT WANT SOMEONES GOFF ON MY BALL , IMAGINE IT IN SUMMER YOU CAN NOT CLEAN IT BETWEEN TEE AND GREEN .
