Remote Golf – Proper Weight Shift

Welcome to season one of our series of one minute golf lesson highlights.

The show includes golf lessons with PGA professional golf instructor, Dickie Browne. Browne is the club pro at Natanis Golf Course, Vassalboro, Maine. He is a 2013 inductee of the Maine Golf Hall of Fame.

Browne’s wife, Shirley, is the golf student in the videos. Although Shirley golfs very little, she hopes to pick up the pace and golf more this summer. The lessons by Browne are aimed at providing his wife with basic fundamentals to apply on practical experience. Practice, practice, practice…

With COVID-19 restrictions, Browne is not permitted to give private golf instruction at the range. He is also not permitted to hold golf clinics. For this reason, an idea was born…pull together a series of one minute golf lesson highlights to share with everyone!

In episode one, the lesson is about proper weight shift. Shirley struggles with balance at the tee when it comes to actually striking the ball. Here on hole 7, a par 3 on Natanis Golf Course, her drives often land in the hazard in front of the green.

For Shirley’s abilities, Browne recommends using a 7 iron; however, Shirley insists on using a 6 hybrid. Hopefully with time and practice, she can lose her fear of getting over the hazard with nothing less than too much club! This is something that you cannot teach in a one minute lesson.

Prerequisite: Intermediate golfing abilities, basic golfing skills, desire to golf!
