Someone needs to whack Richo does every time he doesn't talk into his microphone
Love ya work Jim, you're too smart a bloke to be dropping that silly new made up buzz word "learnings" – what happened to "lessons"?
I live in cairns ,
AFL is not destroying it in cairns they have two teams in the under 16s boys comp that are based in cairns ,
It used to be 5 when I was growing up ,
The AFL in cairns is struggling big time in NQ and are going backwards.
7:00 my grandson is seven, eight in April next year. He began playing touch and tag, and has moved on to tackle this year. He also plays rugby union and does boxing (it might seem a lot, but he loves it and his parents are fortunate to be able to provide for him to be active). At his age, every activity is about technique. In his junior league, they are not allowed to play in a tackle game until they have learned the basics….around the waist and lower, wear a mouth guard and headgear. I can understand what the hierarchy are trying to accomplish, but league is a contact sport. If children aren’t able to learn the technical skills from an early age, they may as well play touch. 23:28 they don’t keep score in my grandsons’ league.
Love Richo, so much knowledge but geez the bloke could talk under water 😂😂😂 don't let him take over the whole conversation
This show is what a rugby league show is about! Great to see intelligent and civilised conversation about some very controversial topics
The earlier technique is learned the better. Younger ages are the perfect time to learn as the collisions are way less detrimental due to physicality and a lot of it could just be catch tackles.
Playing any sport at a more amateurish level always presents more danger, in most BJJ gyms they don’t allow leg locks/knee bar submissions until you reach a certain belt due to the danger that presents from a lack of control and bad form.
The instincts aren’t developed, even cricket in lower divisions there can be way more loose/dangerous deliveries at batsmen that aren’t developed at defending/evading.
Joey reckons we should go to player's weight range instead of player's age. Pretty hard to send your 35kg kid out to play against a 50 or 60kg kid the same age.
Back in the 70s we had player's age for the Penrith juniors and player's weight for the state schools comp.
All I’ll say with grass routes lots of mention always about AFL when it’s Soccer that’s slowly going to take over.
I’m a lifetime League player and coach come from Rugby League family. Soccer is absolutely dominating at grassroots and kids and daylight is second lol
Parents see less injury, less issues with CTE and head knocks, smaller kids thrive and ultimately the rewards. If they are to make the highest level are astronomically bigger than league. So it’s a no brainer League needs to really step up their effort to connect with the communities and kids in schools
This is a fantastic concept for a show. No clickbait/ragebait nonsense, just good chat from a wide range of perspectives about the state of the game. I've really enjoyed both parts so far and looking forward to the rest. 👍
