I think religion is dumb but I also respect other’s choice to believe in dumb things. Shit one of my best friends is a Cowboys fan. Doesn’t change how I feel about Matt at all.
Who’s he talking to here? The problem with putting John 3:16 on your hat or saying Jesus loves you is that it’s all for show. I’m not saying Matt doesn’t believe in Jesus, but all those things do is prop you up in the eyes of people who are already believers, and ones who are pushy with their faith at that. And those same folks mostly say “shut up and dribble” or the like when anyone with a platform says anything they don’t agree with.
That’s the issue I have here. His beliefs are his own, and he shouldn’t be belittled for having them. But if he thinks he’s doing anything other than tooting his horn in show for people who already believe he’s just wrong.
Matt’s not spreading the word to anyone through his internet presence by doing this.

I personally don’t believe in a higher power. I think it’s heinous what certain religions think about certain social issues like abortion and gay marriage. But I also believe that the sense of community and charity that comes from many religious organizations is wonderful for the world.
As with everything, there’s good and bad with everything. The extremes on both sides of any debate (religion, politics, etc) are always going to be toxic af but the middle has a lot of value

Also from the perspective of a non American I don’t think it’s anything particularly out of the ordinary for Americans to have a strong belief in god. It’s a comparatively young nation compared to most countries not even 250 years old and has always had a very heavy emphasis on Christianity throughout the education system and across all aspects of society. I mean it says “in god we trust” on the American dollar which is kind of ironic when money is also regarded as the root of all evil. Matt is a product of the society he has grown up in which in modern America has a much more religious emphasis than most western countries as an alternative to rituals and beliefs passed down from generation to generation over thousands of years.
If you don’t like it there are other places to express your intolerance.
