Kirk Cousins’ work ethic isn’t a ‘higher standard of greatness’ | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC

  1. Maybe Kirk knows this is his last year as a Viking. Read recently that if the Vikes franchise tag him, they will have to pay him over 50 million dollars next year. He is not worth that kind of money.

  2. How dare he use the players one official day off to…take a day off. I'll say it: I'd hate to be a member of Florio's family if this is how he views a proper work/life balance.

  3. Cousins seems comfortable in his own skin, is healthy, doesn’t miss games and plays well most of the time . Taking Tuesday off for wifey is better than losing 100m in a divorce . They don’t have enough great players like Philly or SF to get to the SB anyway.

  4. I think at this point Kirk is probably content with where he is performance-wise. Top 15 QB, making bank, and knowing full well enough that with the way his contracts have been structured, it's going to be financially painful for the vikings to move on without him, unless they get a 1st round QB. Something his own performance has generally been good enough to prevent with the team usually being pretty good.

I don't blame him for it, but as a Vikings fan I'm ready to roll the dice and move on. Kirk's not getting any younger, and I'd rather get out a year or two before his play drops off a cliff like Matt Ryan or any QB not named Brady.

  5. This is an idiotic take. Have a balanced life should be everyone's goal. We live in a sick society that promotes unhealthy workalcohilc lifestyle that leads to all types of mental and physical health issues.

  6. Kirk is rightfully where he needs to be. He's good enough to be a starting QB making money to provide for his family and occasionally making the playoffs. However this also explains why he never will be a champion or great. Overall a good life

  7. When Tom Brady is on his death bed is he going to be clutching his 7 rings and saying it was all worth it or looking in his kids faces and wishing he had spent more time with them when they were young. I'm banking on the latter. Your family around you when its your time to go is more comforting than any material achievement.

  8. You are wrong, some people put family before football, Tom Landry would always say that his personal priorities were God, family and maybe football. And why would that be odd. I don't think Cousins is a great QB but I figure he has what's important right.

  9. Hello! It’s because he doesn’t care about anything but the money. “Kirk Cousins is ass”. Thank you!

  10. You would think Florio would understand the importance of not burning out, what with the number of lawyers that off themselves every year or divorce because of no work life balance. Do you think 10 years from now when Toms kids resent him for getting that 1 extra SB ring, that Tom will think it was worth it?

  11. Way out of line Mike. And if you watched Quarterback series, Mahomes was always spending time with his kids and wife in the show. Poor take bro.

  12. Kirk doesn't care about money, he's not going to get better, his skill set is what it is, and at this stage in his career family is more important than money/fame!

  13. Of all the things that Kirk Cousins does bad, not working on tuesdays isnt as big of a deal as you would think. Some would even argue that having that day to recoup and refresh is probably a good thing. Mental health is important for athletes to perform at their best, and working constantly will result in feeling burnt out and over thinking everything which he already has a problem with.

  14. I almost forgot that Florio was a former MVP NFL quarterback. Of course, he knows the absolute perfect workout routine for Cousins! After watching the Netflix quarterback series, I had a much greater appreciation for Cousins and would much rather have his family relationships than Maholmes as depicted in the show. I was a competitive runner in my 20's and 30's and a regular day off made a huge impact in my race results.

  15. I couldnt listen to this whole segment. You can be passionate about something and still make time for yourself so you don't burnout or jeopardize your mental health. Thats just a selfish take just so your team can possibly win a ring 🙄

  16. So because Mahomes didn't leave his property that is better somehow? What if he spent 6 hrs with his kids? What if it was 4/1/2 hrs with his kids? What if OMG he spent 12 hours with his kids? Are we going to make a video about Mahomes horrible work ethic? This is such an obvious smearing of Cousins because man-child Florio doesn't like him.. SAD!

  17. Every owner beware is just not that big a deal to him. I see why he doesn't really improve. Enjoy your life kirk, just don't say you are working to be great at football. Let the owner know before you accept the contract.

  18. I can't stand this line of attack from Florio. I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb and guess that Kirk's "day off" is related to his faith. He doesn't hide the fact that he is Christian. A lot of Christian's observe a sabbath (to some extent). Perhaps Kirk is honoring that commitment during the season on a Tuesday. And at the same time strengthening his relationship with his family. I guarantee the Vikings knew about this when they signed him (multiple times). They could've chosen not to.

If Florio's point is that Kirk doesn't have the edge others do, then that's ok. But he always tries to make things more 'profound' and like he has some secret we are all missing out on. He's never the one who's missing something.

  19. He might not care about being great. But he has his priorities straight. And Florio is absolutely laughable if he thinks Mahomes wouldn't have been at the KC game if they were playing Tuesday afternoon in the WC round

  20. The problem is he is paid millions of dollars to win a superbowl. Other quarterbacks like Mahomes, Manning, and Brady worked their tails off and didnt take days off.

  21. Comments so far suggest folks are more concerned with Kirk's quest for holistic self-fulfillment than with the product on the field. Y'all are way more broad minded than I am as a Vikings fan — I'd prefer that the players do everything they can to be at their best each week. I'm with Florio here, and I like that he keeps bringing this up. Over 120 days from the playoff loss to OTAs means that even while grinding through his professional career, Kirk is able to spend one out of every 3 days during the year doing nothing but hanging out with his family. Yet those 17 Tuesdays just can't be sacrificed? This doesn't begin and end with Kirk either — you can bet every single dude on the team is VERY aware that Kirk has committed to not doing jack for the Vikings on Tuesdays. Think they're going to bust their ass to put in maximal effort? Kirk's gonna Kirk, of course, and nothing will change, but it's more than fair for Florio to point this out.

  22. I get your point but what's he playing for? Greatness? A chip? He's already NOT an HOF QB. The Vikings are NOT going to Vegas in February. He's already made a TON of $$$. Is he worried about his next contract? No. Either he gets tagged, he gets offered a big 1 year deal or he's done. And he's performing at a high enough level as a 12 year vet that the coaches aren't going to be on his case. What are they going to do, fire him?
