The Ashes, Boxing to name a couple of sports where if there's a tie, the defending champions retain the trophy…just like the Solheim and Ryder Cup. I believe in the tradition that you have to beat the defending champions to win it.
Your idea of having an odd number of points you could win to stop their being a tie is flawed. As each team could finish on 14.5 each. Thats an odd number of points but still a tie.

Give it a break with Lexi. A non-story but all the podcasters and media types are having a feeding frenzy over it. The audacity to sit there days later and talk about what she should’ve said. Were you competing in the Solheim Cup? Did you just lose a tough match? We’re you emotionally exhausted, but had to sit there and answer questions? Are you under the microscope constantly? She’s human, and reacted to the question in the moment. Now you’re implying a cover up re: the clip? Just ridiculous.

Half to 2/3's of the ball was in clear view, and from her vantage point there would have been more to see. Got to play the appropriate shot according to the conditions. Lexi had a good mentor in the form of her captain, both being known for having glass jaws to criticism, so it didn't surprise me with the answer and the muffled comment from Stacey proclaiming it was an unfair question.
I do like the tie scenario and 'leaving us hanging' result. Makes the next showdown, next year, even more mouth watering.
There was some fine quality golf being played in Spain. The girls are so good to watch and learn from. Swings and distances are relatable.

It was a dumb question. Why ask "what where you thinking" She obviously didn't purposely hit a shank. That's the equivalent of asking the boxer who just got knocked out "walk me through what happened"…it's a dumb question because the person clearly wasn't trying to get knocked out and they just got caught with a good shot.

A boxing tie the holder retains the belt. So in effect same as Solheim and Ryder Cup.
If the Ryder cup comes to a tie , the captains have a playoff to decide. It would be cool to choose captains that still have some game rather than a captain ship about nostalgia. Lexi has the right to say what she wants , she just was to hurt to come up with a plausible explanation , sometimes putters are just better chipper tools ….really square face at least !
If you want to be the champ, you've got to beat the champ. They didn't win, they tied.
The result of the Solheim Cup was a draw with the holder retaining the cup. There was no winner.
Cricket also does this. Retention isn’t winning but it isn’t losing either.
To win something you have to win it outright in regulation play, not a lottery overtime for the sake of it.
A tie is not a vicotry…they retained the title…they did not win..ties are so stupid. Should be extra holes.
Pro golfers, "It was a bad lie" Come to the courses I play you never have a good lie, the greens are awful, bunkers are mud, fairways are the rough..you hit a bad shot…own it.

I wonder how the rest of us would have responded, being a professional golfer and hitting an embarrassing shot (especially for them), and just praying that question doesn’t come up. How would we feel if we were sitting there? Yes, she could have handled the question better. But what would the rest of us had really done, had we been sitting there? I say let’s just all move on, including her.

Between Americas reaction to its womens World Cup soccer team and now Lexi, I think you need to look at your countries underlying misogyny more than whether Lexis response was questionable. Amazing that the LPGA had the video removed from the media. Lexi should not have been on the team to start with. She made 3 cuts all year long. 3. But she's the money shot just like Tiger. She and the others (golf channel) can just brush it off but if she chips the ball in or on the green and makes the putt……..the US wins.
So in 89 Europe Retain in a tie. In 69 US retained in a tie… the rule of a tie goes to the team to retain goes back longer than you’ve been alive. While I agree that there shouldn’t a tie. But come dude, it favours both sides!

Golf is suppose to be a professional sport at this level. Lexi should have been a big girl and answer the question like an adult. Until then the Solheim will be a lil gurls cup cake tournament. What actually looked like happened was Lexi choked, but I agree she could have answered with "I wasnt commited to the shot" Done. Your righ tthe shot is not easy to find- even diff angles impossible.
Stop infantilizing women by calling them girls. She's an adult woman. You'd never address a PGA player as a boy. At worst, call her a lady – as the Ladies PGA does.
