Today Ian and @PaigeSpiranac go through a Trackman gapping session to take a top-to-bottom look at all 14 clubs in Paige’s bag.

Gapping refers to the process of finding out the distance you hit each of your clubs and the ‘gaps’ you have in between each club.

  1. Around the 15:00 mark –

It’s the clubs! Check out reviews from independent testers like MyGolfSpy and they will confirm the inconsistency of game-improvement irons. They are more “forgiving” but in general, much less consistent in producing identical yardages every shot

Get her into some Mizuno JPX 923 Tours and those problems will evaporate! She definitely has the skill level to hit a small cavity back like those clubs.

Also, blade-like irons have become a lot more forgiving over the past decade or so. I can personally attest to this going recently from some Mizuno MP59s to the JPX923 Tours

  2. I can relate to Paige having distances that are variable. I've found that on some days, when my swing feels good and my timing is right, my irons are half a club longer. The reverse is also true; some days my irons are half a club short. I can usually feel the difference while warming up on the range.

  3. Interesting that you want her to go to a longer shaft in PW when she has issues shanking it. Why wouldn't the longer shaft cause more shanks?

  4. Would love to see you build up a set of one-length irons for Paige. If I wasn't so budget minded, the Edel SMS line would be my go-to choice for that build.

  5. Hello Ian. Please work with Paige and get her Back on the LPGA. The Young Lady Golfers need her There. Paige would you try Different Iron Companies?

  6. Looking forward to the next episode with Paige. Would be cool if she tried other shaft options. Those LA Golfs don't seem to be the right fit for her imo.

  7. Nobody should have a PW lofted at 42 degrees. Especially not a pro. You should be able to hit a "Pitch" with your pitching wedge.

  8. More relatable swing speeds, gives you an idea of what could be achieved. Smiles from both. Hope there's a Driver , woods episode coming up.

  9. Definitely would like to see a 6 hybrid hit. I went to a 6 hybrid as 2 out of 10 shots were awesome with 6 iron but the hybrid is way more consistent and stops better on greens , for me anyway

  10. "COBRA ONE LENGTH" I I built a set of irons that Ian once mentioned.
One length heads with traditional length shafts.
they did exactly what Ian thought would happen😮
short irons stopped turning left and long irons stopped turning right.
recently sold them and regretting it so much.
Paige is definitely a candidate for one length probably 7-pw at 8 iron length

  11. What a cool session. Great job Ian and Paige. It was truly fascinating to listen to both of you delve deeply into the topic of club and distance gapping and explore potential ways to modify it.🟧

  12. Thoughts about 1/4” inch length increments vs 1/2” increments? You’d have to swingweight them to get them accurate but might be a good idea for her

  13. I went longer and longer with iron lengths this year and now I'm playing near-single length from lob wedge to 7. They are about 1/8" difference per club. Game changer. Now very confident and comfortable with my scoring clubs and much more focused on feel and creativity. And a flushed 9 iron sounds like a 4 hybrid. Absolute rocket.
