The straight arm thing is a good one. Look at Ryan Fox's left arm at the top of the swing, it's got a very noticeable bend in it.
Great session Peter and as a very average golfer who occasionally "hits a really good shot" ( and thinks what did I do then?) these issues are important to undetstand
The straight left arm is a game changer. I gained 20 yards on my average drive just by relaxing that arm compared to keeping it straight.
Any tips fixes on how to stop shanks and heel strikes itās killing my game
nice hat lad
Great vid as always. Thanks.
For externally rotating the trail shoulder, I like the waiter drill – moving the right hand into a position where I'm holding an imaginary tray of drinks at the top.
Then holding the right hand in that position and rotating the body is a great way of getting the feel of squaring the club face by rotating the body. No arm movement. Obviously I'm pro level now… š
Love the hat by the way, been saying I need one ages š¤
what the hell is lag?
It might just be a personal thing but I find I can control where the club face is better when I keep my lead arm more straight. I think Iāll work on letting it relax a bit more and work on what my hands are doing
Whatās the deal with that hat?
always liked the joke of the golf instuctor putting his students in ridiculous postures including head down, arm straight, feet planted, back straight, and then says, ārelaxā.
Many older golfers are perpetually stuck with the excuse of "I didn't keep my head down". Thanks for this video Peter. Highly informative.
My last range session a couple of days ago was the first time I realized I had fallen for the last myth and seeing now that I've come to the right conclusion feels great. Great info as always Pete!
I have had so much disinformation being brought into my lessons by typical golf addicts concerning artificially trying to add lag or wrist hinge, etc. as of late, and I've never seen so many golfers 100% unable to release the club or square the face in my life. Thanks for pointing this out, Peter.
Hmmm…I hate you teaching the folding/soft arm is okay, Peter: the problem that I see that you don't here is that it actively shortens the length of the club's arc by not keeping the lead arm straight: all I ever see from golfers trying to gain more ROM and backswing length is they "let the chain go slack" and they've actually lost energy by adding the elbow hinge. I disagree here at 5:35 Pete.
…so, finally, this YouTube lesson is going to get chalked up to all the confusing kerfuffle most viewers can't interpret, since it has too many info point presented without any lesson context or a specific individual receiving the instruction. Pete, I'm afraid the whole goal of Swing Quest for "quick lessons" is at the heart of all the golfers who watch YouTube for their instructional improvement yet fail time and again because their education in golf looks similar to pin the tail on the donkey: there might be a very useful tidbit of info written on each tail, but the individual blindly attaching that info to haphazard parts of their swing when it might not even be a teaching point that applies to them…and here we are looking at a bunch of very confused and frustrated amateur golfers.
It simply begs the question, Pete: are the viewers now better off having watched this, or just now more confused about who to trust and who not to trust??
Letās talk about that hat pete
Nice I never knew this channel existed
Nobody likes a floppy arm
Pete: Most people watching this aren't tour level athletes
Me: We've been ratted out boys
Love this video Mr Finch! Last one was the one that killed my swing for ages. "Fire the hips, fire the hips!" is what we're told every 2 seconds. Turns out years of playing football, tennis and all sorts of other sports means i'm still reasonably athletic in my 40s!
Firing those hips meant that the club got stuck behind, didn't get the speed I could generate and all my shots were blocked off to the right into the next county because I couldn't swing my arms fast enough.
As soon as I learned to slow them down and actually swing – compressed, fizzy draw shots for days! I now don't even think about my hips – let them react how they will.
I knew you would rock that hat soon on a video Pete š
i don't really try to create lag but instead try and create a 90 degree angle through the downswing, is this still incorrect? i've improved my ball striking using this because i have a really bad early extension issue.
Its nice with golf tips and all – but what model of FJs are those?!
This hat better stay š
