I read the novel series "Clan of the Cave Bear," when i was a teenager, and have been fascinated with early human interactions/domesticattions with wild animals ever since. I'm glad i found this podcast
I own one of those trench knives in fact I have two. One has a 7" blade the other has a 14" blade.

My significant " No rear entry " that is the only one that counts
Domestic pigs making a wild boar into a Domestic pig
When native Americans hunted bison you have to kill all of the bison in a herd if you run them off a cliff because if one survives you can never use that cliff again because no bison will go there. They have a group memory
Pig dogs are common in mainland Australia… very uncommon for a dog to chase anything put a pig.. in a scale 1-10 10 being the best trained pig dog. A dog rated 4+ wouldn't chase anything but a pig.. the. You have dogs that will grab the closest pig to them. Other dogs will run through a mob just to grab a big male pig or some would cut through a mob to grab a big female pig. The dog builds a preference to what they will take
Wow. Great❤
Thank you very much😊
Thank you DR. Angela p
Stop New World Order
There is a huge push from state and federal to stop hunting and disarm every one a.s.a.p. record breaking tag increase in Elk and deer permits $$$ some mule deer tag's are selling for North of$$$ 1.3 million dollars for a single tagdeer elktags have sky rocketed in west for elk deer hunting.
Family hunting is done forever.
Defund state and fed game agencies 80% reduction in force. Abolish Pittman Robertson fund for 5 years
Talk more about pitman Robertson fund regulations and Fed greed. I live in west and can't afford golden bullets. They are taking everything away from us in America especially the west
I had hounds for my whole life until 5 years ago the invasion from the southern border caused many rural ranch lands into urban mess. No more chickens anymore.😢😢😢
Stop calling Beringia landmass a bridge, it was larger than the Serengeti!
Great episode!
Is there any evidence of people (ancient or more recent) using dogs to chance down elk?
38:09 that’s just like coyotes.
"You're really reading into this" – "Well, it was my PhD"
Absolutely brutal shutdown. 😀
Great podcast but the Bering Streight theory about the origin of Native Americans is outdated and false. Certain groups came across such as the Athabascan people but most of us have been here 30+thousand years and much longer.
Listening to this today. A year after i had to put down my faithful friend Argos. Named after Odysseus' dog.
This is the first podcast I’ve seen from Meat Eater, but I think it’s a good one to watch. Angela Perri brought a lot to the table I think. The conversation was super interesting.
Well done!
This is painful to watch. You've got apparent morons talking to a specialist as if she's just some chick with vague ideas.
THE BONEYARD ALASKA
I seem to remember the Nez Perz killed thier dogs before slipping away from the US Army in the dead of night.
My theory on why wolves relinquished the kill, is because we are better at kiling. They can track and hunt better tha us, but to actually take down a large size animal os the most dangerous part for a wolf/lion/predator. Getting scraps 90percent of the time safely is better than loosing a pack member and getting to eat 30percent of the time? Maybe
Dogs are pack animals and the handler replaces the alpha male.
They are also scavengers searching for scavenge
My kid got a wooden goalie Colorado Avalanche mini stick taken from him in Seattle after flying from Denver to come back to Alberta. Got given to him from doing the junior announcer at his first NHL for his favourite team. Can’t buy a replacement online either.
Yo-yo's started out as weapons
The Coyote is a re-wilded, Feral ancient domestic dogs from the first population of the America's… call it a hypothesis with no evidence.
Her intelligence is hot
Siberia was home to the denosovans I believe so that may have been that species "thing" being dogs. Then homosapians were like that's dope I want one. Just thinking out loud.
If you look closely into the word Dog, spell it backwards and you get GOD!! They were definitely given to us 🙏🏾
Wow that was great!
You dismissed all of the civilization that was present 12k years ago and longer before the Comet and great flood that ended the ice age . No way people were hunter gathering for millions of years . The global catastrophe reset human kind. And no way did humans make the mega funa extinct no way
Rinella………. dire wolves
Somebody give rinella a addy sheesh focus
I currently have a female black mouth cur that will go from treeing squirrels to blood trailing deer or hogs, to retrieving doves without tearing them up and it took years to fine tune everything as far as what to hunt and what to ignore, and how to hunt the way I wanted but its very rewarding in the end and I can absolutely understand why dogs were so useful to our ancestors and why they are sometimes found buried in a ceremonial way. I think back on some of my dogs most amazing moments and the food she helped provide and it gives a glimpse into how ancient man would've felt about a good dog when every day was a struggle for survival. Awesome stuff
These paid speculators w/Phd's have no idea what actually was nor actually when- yet speak as if they do – evidently to justify their paychecks as tho they must speak in certainty's within the preset narrative and scheme of those who teach, direct, hire & Pay them to saay it = it is embarrassing…!
Then later in time turn on a rime[the new evidences forces them] and the reverse what for yrs, decades even century's was estsblished fact the defendedd til they couldn't…!
In some cases refuse to open the lid on the thinking-box they've confined themselve into til finally realizing they've been bypassed as the world has move on without them so must reluctantly concede their former thinking was All in error…!
There has been speculation some of the very large dogs breeds originally came from domesticated Dire Wolves at 200-300lbs….?
IF racoons are not hunted + trapped its certain a Rabies Outbreak will occur which IF a very bad for everything else…!
