Alan Smith joined Sky Sports News to discuss England following their 3-1 win over Scotland.
Gareth Southgate leapt to the defence of Harry Maguire after his every pass was sarcastically mocked against Scotland, with the England manager calling his treatment an “absolute joke”.
Maguire, who started on the bench for England in their win over Scotland, was brought on at half-time owing to an injury to Marc Guehi and was subjected to ironic cheers from the Scottish fans for every pass he made.
The England defender went on to score an own-goal in his team’s otherwise impressive victory.

I laughed when he was made the most expensive defender over VVD , VVD is rolls Royce and Harry is just reliable. But as a football fan , it's hard to see a guy go through so much , he has been given 0 support , he has been given 0 from any manager to somehow improve his form .
Hopefully he can leave UTD and have a respectable career and revive some respect.
It seems like Maguire chose money over minutes, he made his choice he should be dropped. Lots of up and coming CBs available, Southgate should stop picking his mates. Phillips etc should be dropped too.

Lewis Dunk did really well, Maguire came on and made the whole team nervous

Some very harsh critics here. Remember Dele Ali. IMO its refreshing to see loyalty in modern football from Southgate. Isn't a manager supposed to stand by his players. Not throw them under the bus. I think it shows balls and belief from harry to stay at united and fight for his place.
Maguire was our best player.

Tomori has been playing Champions League football for AC Milan (where Maldini currently sits on the recruitment board of AC Milan).
Colwill is playing for Chelsea week in week out and he has been the standout performer for Chelsea so far this season.
Guehi has been rock solid every-time he came on.
Dunk has been rock solid every-time he put on an England shirt.
The above 4 Centerbacks are all currently better than Maguire, that's why fans are hating on him now, no other reason.

Pundits saying he needs to leave but maguire in his deluded mind is probably only interested in a top 6 club. No sympathy for a deluded big ego person like Harry ' the snail' Maguire.
Of course we have sympathy for the guy – we are fellow humans.
We are just puzzled why he was brought on, when there are so many excellent alternatives – who have actually been regulars for major clubs.
Maguire cant take criticism, and its bad for him. He shud spent his own money for all the therapy he needs to get back to his prime !! Close down all his social media and focus on how to handle his negative aspect to come back stronger!! Nothing is too late unless he gave up !! He did not give up his wage though 🤔🤔
He's a professional footballer, he knows people are going to react to his dreadful mistakes but it's also Southgate's fault here too!! Gareth keeps contradicting himself because at the start of his tenure, he said these words…….."I'll only pick players who are in form and playing regular games"….. fans remember these words but Gareth obviously doesn't.
The more he plays Maguire, the more mistakes he'll make, the more own goals he'll score and the more stick he'll get. Southgate can break the cycle by leaving him out and giving him a break.

Southgate is a dunce and should look in the Mirror but the honest truth is that he keeps scoring own goals and gifting opposition opportunities to score. The know it all pundits that put every united player under more scrutiny than even Mancity, real Madrid and Barca players should take responsibility for Maguire's position and stop looking at the Fans
