Hall of Fame offensive lineman Joe Thomas joins the Dan Patrick Show and shares what he saw from former quarterback Johnny Manziel back when they were teammates on the Cleveland Browns
Johnny had every red flag possible. Why would anyone think that could have translated into a professional nfl quarterback is something that didn't make sense.
Who directed the show… Captain Obvious? Everybody knew this about him already, as it was happening. Why keep on trying to make this clown relevant over and over again. People who watched that show will never get that time back. A waste of time, like his career. What a joke.
Their is some quick insight for anyone scouting the NFL. Supreme athletic ability, commitment to the team, and a high football IQ. When a guy has none of those, pretty sure there is no reason to draft him in the first round.
I'm really glad that Mr. Thomas said this. For a future Hall of Fame veteran like that, it has to be incredibly discouraging to watch your franchise draft some guy in the first round who the odds were stacked against. As he noted, there were so many checkmarks in the "cons" column and few-to-none in the "pros" column. While physical limitations can be overcome, having a weak worth ethic combined w/ an inability and complete lack of experience playing system football made Manziel who was never, ever going to make it in the League. At no point did he ever have what it took nor was he willing to work for it. It was a lose-lose situation.
Nothing but respect for Joe Thomas. He played the LT position in All-Pro form his whole HoF career on absolutely horrendous Browns teams. That just goes to show what a great person, employee, and role model he truly was. I salute him & Bravo to him getting a bust in Canton.
Look, we all know he was athletic could run by time and he had Mike Evans in some outstanding receivers. Anyone with his skill set would’ve been successful. He was off script. He didn’t run the plays properly he just bought time for some future professional, receivers hookah Dominic college to get open.
I have a better question. How did a comedian named Roger Rodd say on draft day that this guy isn’t even a viable free agent, when people who do this for a living drafted him in the first round? Next question would be, are those same people now bagging groceries at Walmart or are they still employed in similar positions, and if so, WHY?
To each his own-he wanted to stay in Cleveland. But Thomas could have a ring right now. 2015 Broncos had a trade agreed to for him apparently…but he turned it down to remain a Brown. So now that team goes down as not only 1 of the greatest deffenses ever…Shaq Barret was a BACKUP on that defense…& not only where Peyton became the 1st qb to ever win SBs with multiple teams(til Brady also did it later)-& only qb to this day to start in multiple SBs with multiple teams…but probably still the worst oline ever to win a SB. They definitely wouldn't have been that with Thomas. But he made his decision…Charles Woodsen also lost out on a ring,& playing on an epic Alltime defense cuz he decided to go back to the dumpster fire that was the Raiders-over that Bronco team. But at least Woodsen did get a ring in GB,& played in another SB with the Raiders. But Thomas never sniffed a SB,& Woodsen lost his chance at winning multiple rings,& being part of a top 5 or 10 Alltime defense for a single season. And 1 of that defenses strongest arguments is not just that Peyton was injured,& mostly washed up…but that they carried a terrible oline to that title…beating future HOFers Ben,& Brady…then that seasons regular season MVP Cam
This is probably why he got voted in: everything he went through in Cleveland, and with the sheer amount of talent he had…we are forever grateful, Joe. If Deshaun somehow wins us a title, the Browns brass need to get you fitted for a ring as well. They owe you that much!
In a way you just have to blame all of this on the Browns organization. They obviously didnt do their homework on the kid. Manziel should have never been in this situation. Granted Johnny had other things and issues going on and its his own fault he squandered the chance he was given..but he shouldnt have been in that predicament in the first place. Joe stated the obvious about his physical limitations..he should have been picked a few rounds later. Blowing a first round pick does more damage than guessing wrong on a 5th round pick.

Manziel is an idiot to begin with.
Joe Thomas is like, “you had to go there , didn’t you?” I mean this was Joe Thomas’s moment, and they want talk about manziel.
Dan Patrick morphing into Larry Brown.
Ask him about Baker!!!
And after all that they excuse him of being Bipolar. No that Johnny Football High wore off real fast.

Damn, that was the most well expressed roasting I've ever seen packed into less than 3 minutes
This is so common in the workplace too.

Manziel was such a little scumbag. Just a dirtbag, and after watching the documentary, he’s even scummier.
They gave manziel the Tebow treatment. Dumbed down jr high style offense to purposely make him look bad

The browns should hire Joe Thomas as a GM.

Johnny was not good. He had some highlights in college and that's about it. Move on.
cocaine, cooter and drink, will get the best of ya'; johnny included…
Manziel was maybe the most obvious draft bust of all time.
GREAT BROWNS PLAYER. CAN'T SAY THAT VERY OFTEN
Well Bryce Young is smaller and slower than Manziel haha
So he just needed to be drafted by a team that actually did some research on him and set him up better than just making Lebron his texting buddy
What a loser that Manziel
Somebody had to see something in him. Nope. Nope. The idiot owner said draft this media star. That is what happened.
Him and Johnny pill pop have one thing in common.. NO SB RINGS 😂
Why am I all of a sudden seeing people talking about Johnny Football a decade later?
Nailed it

He just roasted Johnny Manzel for 2 and a half minutes

All those quote unquote Physical limitations dont mean crap ! Jonny was magic on the field. If he was commited and sober he would of been a NFL star 🌟
I’m laughing over here no athletic ability. He won the heisman trophy
