  1. What I heard was two dedicated body builders with opposing views on the best way to achieve a muscular body. I didn't catch anything that suggested Steve Reeves "Hated" Mike Mentzer.

  2. more meat or fish or eggs does make more muscle, i dont know how people can buy into mentzer, makes alot of good points, but he seems like hes a bit insane

  3. Hates a pretty big word very powerful๐Ÿ˜ข word…. All due respect to Mike menzr and his brother Ray may they both rest in โœŒ๏ธ..๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’ช yes Mike came into that what was it the 1980 Mr Olympia… Arnold was The Golden boy… He was big moneymaker for the weeders.. and well deserved…. At his height and weight and his incredible posing he just had the perfect skeletal frame to build a great physique,, although Mike Mentzr came in in the best shape of his life nobody could beat Arnold!! But with that tall physique, if it weren't for arnolds arms he would never have been as great as he is! But he did and that's what made him so great ๐Ÿ‘ no disrespect to Mike he was such a great bodybuilder what is that time just nobody could be Arnold, Arnold came in not even one hundred percent.. but he has the physique of all physiques when it comes to bodybuilding ๐Ÿ’ฏ. Mike's physique is outstanding but when you stand him next to Arnold he just comes in second place… It's just genetics.. Arnold just had such a pleasing physique is proportions…. Mike should have kept competing after Arnold retired he probably could have won some mister O'z but he got discouraged and quick competing.. that was a huge mistake on his part, ๐Ÿ™

  4. If you see how Reeves ( or Schwarzenegger for that matter ) move in their films , it's hard to believe they were really that good at other athletic endeavours. Way to slow and sluggish. An exceptional talent for building esthetic muscle on a great frame , yes ,a big talent for classic athleticism, no.

  5. I was never aware of any real animosity between the 2, but Reeves was very negative on roids, while Mike used them

  6. Oh… , but both of The Mentzer๐Ÿ”ฅBrothers – Mister๐Ÿ˜˜Mike AND Mister๐Ÿ˜Ray – were just soooo incredibly, supremely, utterly, m-a-g-n-i-f-i-c-e-n-t … absolutely, breathtakingly, devastatingly, ruggedly h-a-n-d-s-o-m-e … dominant, macho manly … ultra-virile … intensely hyper-masculine … obviously, and just naturally, positively testosterone-overloaded/-supercharged … super strong … brutally powerful … soooo gorgeously, spectacularly, thrillingly, m-u-s-c-u-l-a-r … huge-, bulging-, iron-/steel-hard-, and magnificently, m-u-s-c-l-e-d ๐Ÿ’‹, ๐Ÿ’ / ๐Ÿ’‹,๐Ÿ’…!!! Steve Reeves…? Yeah, he was alright…. ~*Bodybuilding Legends* ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ’–

  7. "Hate' is a word abused by the media to malign folk who disagree w/the popular opinion or agenda of said media. Especially when the 'race card' is being played. "Hate' became a catch phrase of the leftist.

  8. LIAR! Just to generate views to make money ๐Ÿ’ฐ! Steve Reeves never said nothing bad about Mike Mentzer!

  9. The key difference between Reeves and Mentzer is the use of steroids, which is why Mike died so young. Funny how the truth is always minimized when it comes to bodybuilders and the dirty little secret. Joe Weider's magazines fooled a generation of young naive enthusiasts like myself.

  10. Saw Mentzer in 1980 November in London he was doing a tour of Europe seminar/ posing this was after his disappointing finish at the Olympia……….If anybody is interested i will carry on with this story.

  11. Andrea Parussini: Re Mentzer seminar…. When i purchased the Mentzer ticket for his seminar, what took me back was written on the ticket itself it proclaimed Seminar and posing exhibition by '' Mike Mentzer 1980 Mr Olympia ''……He must've assumed he was going to win and these seminar tours a victory lap, he was asked by the audience regarding the now legendary controversial, Arnold win. He kept it short, his reply was pointing towards politics too much money invested in Arnold for him to loose, Arnold was always followed by a circus, Mike did say in the end draw your own conclusions. For mike having those tickets printed assuming he was going win….Re the seminar in general it was held in a place called Central halls very close to the house of parliament… Mike spoke well, espousing his training concepts, he looked good during his posing routine Exhibition, we the audience loved it and showed our Appreciation.

  12. I agree with Steve Reeves
Mike Mentzer bought into a 'One Size Fits All' approach – which really doesn't account for the genetic differences in trainees. Some individuals with a higher percentage of Fast-Twitch fibers, will find that High Intensity works great for them.
But, for others, with more Slow Twitch Fibers, would find that a higher reps/higher sets approach works better for them.
And Strength Training Research has validated this.

I think Mentzer's 'worship' of Ayn Rand and Objectivist Thinking led him to believe that there was only '1 way to Build Muscle Mass'.

  13. I'm starting a very advanced method. I'm only going to workout once a year and not that intense. At 55 my joints are killing me.

  14. One was traing off being Natural other was traing for being off a lot of Roids and other things. All depends on a person body and how fast they heal.

  15. Mentzer did not believe that everybody responded the same. He believed that the principles of muscle growth were the same for everybody but there were variations in recovery capacity. My experience is that most people who take up weights eventually quit because after the initial spurt of growth they work their butts off to no effect and give up. Mentzer's philosophy makes sense, There is no logical reason to assume that more is better for muscle growth. You do the minimum required to stimulate growth and give the muscles however long they need to recover and grow. That minimum is far less than people think, but it is difficult to shake the more is better mindset. His other insight is the lack of life balance in bodybuilders. They tend not to develop the other areas of their life, just getting older with bigger muscles and no more equipped to handle life than when they were puny. Bodybuilders tend to feel anxious when they miss a workout. Workout less frequently for less time and pursue other interests and the anxiety will disappear. I think Mentzer is right and there are some exceptional body builders who can handle long workouts, especially with chemical aids, but that doesn't mean they couldn't achieve the same or better results by doing the min amount of high intensity work with more frequency than the average person could handle.

  16. The only drug-free bodybuilding was that of the Bronze ages. I believe that even Steve reeves dabbled in small amounts of testosterone in his movie years.

  17. In interview Reeves did state Mentzer sort of (original heavy duty) was ideal comparing against split routines everyday for hours. Reeves is the best bodybuilder of all time… He didn't seem interested in Arnold either

  18. Reeves is right. Full body 3x a week (intense) is more effective than 1 workout every week or few days. But as Reeves stated a lot of different workouts and all work

  19. Hit is actually is the safest way to train for muscle growth as the reps are performed more strictly and slowly taking up to 8 seconds per rep it takes days to fully recover systemically before training again

  20. I felt for him at first with the Arnie thing at Olympia 80 but when I learn more about him from different sources I think mentzerโ€™s amphetamine use is really awful and probably why his method worked. Arnie won 1980 with his charisma

  21. Mike Mentzer was a moron who hated cardio and training for a long time a day. Mike only did the minimal to grow his body. Which makes no stance from a natural point of view.

  22. In no way shape or form does this video show us how …"REEVES HATED MENTZER."….
In fact between the 5:006:00 minute mark it clearly shows how much in common they had.
It does show some of the reservation's and concerns Reeves may have had with Heavy Duty. And that Reeves felt many styles could work….BUT THAT IS A FAR CRY FROM…"REEVES HATES MENTZER???"
Bottom line they BOTH believed in training about 3 days a week while they were competing. BOTH used cardio. BOTH ate more carbs then a lot of their competitors….
How anyone gets "HATE" out of that is a mystery.

  23. Reeves stated," I gained 30 pounds of solid muscle in just four months" after joining Ed Yarick's gym. Under the guidance of the gym owner, Reeves was introduced to some new training principles and most likely to PEDs. To gain that amount of muscle in such a short time and to say it was all done naturally is to discredit all the "true" natural bodybuilders for their time and dedication in the gym with modest results to show for it. Those who believe that these top bodybuilders were natural probably also believe in the spurious "Colorado Experiment".

  24. I'm 66 and Mr Steve Reeves was my favorite love him playing hucules.
Perfect hair mustache Beard always wanted to be like him. Always getting the women.
    Love you My friend.
