Today, Ian welcomes Johnny Wunder to the bay to do a blind ball test examine the spin characteristics of the ball types. Check it out to see how much of a difference spin has on both 7 iron and Driver strikes.

  1. I was suggested Kirkland and vice pro plus by a fitter

I used the Kirkland a few rounds and they were incredibly sticky on the greens with irons, but short and unpredictable off the tee, the highest spinner apparently around

Do you think the pro plus sacrifices alot of spin compared to the Kirklands? Or do you think they will sit where I need a ball to ( slightly less spinny than Kirkland)

  2. love these types of convos as I have them in my head constantly ;0)… you nailed me at the end, "Id rather see more fairways then the occasional home run". Crap!!! I hit lots of home runs in baseball so I go for it off the tee, come from inside, hump move, and flip the hands, and when donkeys fly, I hit 300! hahaha. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. This was very interesting and educational for me, and I’m one who is probably at a significantly lower level of expertise on this subject. Trottie would have been really an interesting one to have on this discussion I think.

  4. Interesting that the high spin ball despite 2mph ball speed and higher smash factor and same launch is still going 2 yards less on the iron shots.

  5. If your swing speed is 90-95 MPH would the ball choice be different or would they spin a similar amount? Thanks, Ted

  6. Love Johnny’s different nuggets of info here. Don’t hear a lot of people mention the point of diminishing returns on upward AoA. I notice this too. If I try to hit the ball more on 0* AoA or on a low tee, I get so much more ball speed due to the lessened dynamic loft. Lose a couple yards to the lowered apex height and maybe a touch of spin from the strike being lower in the head, but the ball is so much more manageable. And it’s coming out fast, you can still achieve a lot of rollout

  7. Looking for a new ball right now. Tried a bunch. I’m not a guy who creates a lot of spin. Yet right now the two balls I play best with on the course are prov1 and chrome soft

  8. Ian, if you can get some of those tour only balls, that would be a super cool video to watch.
On paper the Titleist left dot spins low and launches low, but how much lower? Would love to see some stats…. And if you need someone to do the testing give me a call 😅

  9. Come on CC media, don't completely neuter what TXG did on their production side! Bring the music back!

  10. Lost count how many times i have seen good strikers at my club hitting 105mph drives that sails 50 yards into the woods using callaway supersoft balls cause they are always on sale. And yet they keep buying high launch low spin gear every year in hunt for those 15 yards.

  11. Maybe the best video yet, when it comes to golf equipment these 2 are some of the smartest people on the planet

  12. It's interesting that during all his drives you guys never used a taller tee. He hit every shot too low on the face and couldn't correct his swing to hit it better; a higher tee would have solved that.

  13. What is this location? I know it's no longer TXG but, curious if this another building or just diff camera angles.

  14. Would have been interesting to add some 50 yard shots to see the different reactions on wedges

  15. What’s the apparatus standing Johnny’s bag up? Is it the Callaway Par 3?
