The 1990s Minnesota Vikings were like a fireworks display gone wrong in all the right ways. They smoked, popped, and fizzled out. And just as you thought you had a dud on your hands, they set off every car alarm on the block, exploding into a team the likes of which the sport of football has never seen before or since.

Known goofs:
• Around the 14-minute mark, Warren Sapp, a defensive tackle, should be in purple.
• Around 28.5 minutes in, the book was published in the middle of the 1997 season.
• Around 56 and 59.5 minutes in, Alex, who does not subscribe to the societal emphasis on round numbers/putting numbers that happen to end in zero on a pedestal, has a couple charts where the dataset reprents touchdowns of more than 40 yards — aka 41+ yards rather than the slightly more inclusive 40+.

Please do a dorktown on the Chicago Bears
9's wide world of sports at the 51 min mark anyone?
39 minutes – I am still, to this day, continually amazed at how bad NFL players are at recovering and securing the ball on the ground.
I'm Australian – clean possesion of the ball in the hands is everything in the two major sports we play here. Sure, you know the hit is coming, but that's the case in the major sports we play here too.
As an Australian, I must also note the World Series Cricket music at 50:00. I don't know who did that, but kudos.
at 49:56 I was waiting to see if Jon was going to now link this video to 80's Cricket with the Wide World of Sports theme lmao
I can't unsee the unbalanced minnesota @ 1:09:40
I've never played football, I've never seen a live football game, I am not a Vikings fan, not even an American. Never the less I find the depiction of the events after 57:20 mark really stressful! 😂
I don't feel so good, Mr. Bois
John Randle – the Master of TrashTalk, there is Stories of him having even remembered the names of the third-stringers wife and kids, so he has something to talk in the trenches.
23:16 whats the song name¿ if anyone knows?
That ending was beautiful, and unexpectedly positive after the last two depressing endings
49:47 Every Australian watching just reached for stumps, bails, and a cricket ball and bat.
49:46 Oh hey, cricket's on.
46:15 … I hope and pray that Randy didn't improperly do what is speculated here!
49:47 is that the channel 9 Australian cricket theme 😂
1:20:03 That's some great work, Eugene Robinson. I know EXACTLY how we should celebrate. 🎉😏
Randy moss era I know he had his issues but when he was on he was on
"The Atlanta Falcons offer jokes. Cruel jokes. This is all they are ever good for."
"…who, with the clock stopped, finally uses his last time-out to ice his own kicker."
Dude you were setting the Gary Anderson miss up so far ahead in advance. I didn’t even know about the miss and I knew where you were going just from talking about his perfect record lol
I have never heard the Wide World of Sports theme in a context outside of cricket let alone Australia. Totally woke me up, Randy Moss would make a good square leg batsman imo.
It sucks Gary Andersen is the poster-child for the 98 Vikings chocking. Fact of the matter is that he was more of the cherry on top than anything else. I think the real sell was Dennis Green taking a knee with two timeouts to head into OT. That's a sign of pure incompetence
Man if they keep talking about Anderson‘a kicking perfection then they’re gonna jinx him….. oh wait
Awesome video, but what happened to Deadpool?
Sir Donald Bradman please sb. Thanks again for this amazing series.
1990s Vikings? Come with me to Tecmo Super Bowl, a truly marvelous NES game. It’s a game I love playing, and a thing I remember about the Vikings is that both their backup running backs are the same dude. Their photos differ, they have their own names (Jessie Clark and Alfred Anderson), they wear different jersey numbers (33 and 46), but their attributes are line-for-line identical.
Do we return to the 1997 divisional round game at some point?
Twenty five years later and I STILL have nightmares about that kick.
Hate to say it but Viking fans tend to be insufferable, especially since their team has never won a championship 😆 I feel karma tends to get them after they run their mouths during the regular season😂💩🖕
Do I Hear Solstice by Brain Bennett @ 23:47?
YES
Finally some Jazz that Secret Base/Jon Bois DIDN'T Introduce me to!
Next episode will finally be seasons I was alive for!
As a packers fan I’m sure my team will not feature in any notable negative way!
👀👀
That knee cracked the 21 yo me 😅
Bro the wild world of sports song set my Aussie brain off
Suddenly, at 49:56, a cricket match broke out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Tu-aubYfvI
Well those closing remarks helped ease the sting of that game at least a little bit. It's crazy how many great Vikings teams there have been with no ring to show for it
At 50:00 the channel 9 cricket theme was a welcome surprise!
I winced so hard at the line about MN finally building a super bowl dynasty, but they did it for Dallas
I could watch Randy Moss highlights every day and never get tired of them. That man reinvented his position and took it to a level that had not been reached before or since.
