Just goes to show how important the Manager really is to any team. Englands Golden Generation underachieved. Meanwhile a few years later Vincente Del Bosque effortlessly balanced Iniesta, Xavi, Busquets, Xabi Alonso and Fabregas all on his moustache.
The truth is Carrick was rubbish, the two yard pass most of the time, more often than not backwards or sideways, giving the ball away too often, no passion, definitely was never good enough to play for United, they are just being kind to a former teammate
England never had a good manager at the international level. Erikson, Capello, Roy Hodgson, etc etc etc….they might have been legends in their own right…but they never had it in them to win a Euro or the World Cup. It's truly hard to believe….the Golden Generation consisting of Scholes, Rio, Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, Carrick, Campbell, Defoe, etc etc did not win anything at the international level and ultimately retired empty-handed. That's pure injustice and insulting. What a shame. These guys (especially Scholes and Carrick) are study material in the academies of other clubs.
Everyone that played with Carrick rated him so highly. Incredible that a fan thinks they understand football better than some like Scholes or Ferdinand.
The most too late ruddy interview ever… ince was a central engine but carrick was the first nowadays Rice, whom passing ability was superb. Just becoz he doesn't snarl, get stuck in efc great players don't need too
Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard were mad overrated. Especially Gerrard and Scholes Gerrard – Lacked the elite technical ability and football IQ midfielders have. Lacked what Alsonso had. All has no breaks. Couldn't keep possession. Couldn't control the tempo of the game. Too wasteful. 50% of his myth is off one noght in Istambul Scholes was an enigma- could mix it up with the best but rarely played at that level. Very inconsistent. Woild disapear for months. Couldn't defend. Couldn't maintain position. Overrated football IQ and technical ability. Not a good dribbler. Lost the ball often similar to Gerrard but not as much.
People tend to forget we actually did play Carrick. He got loads of caps and did nothing with them. we still got passed off the park and couldnt keep possesion when carrick played.
Rooney, Ronaldo and Tevez upfront with Giggs and Scholes pulling the strings. And yet I keep hearing how great Carrick was. He was ok, but he was worth mythologizing about. He spent most of his career passing sideways to better players.
even as a child watching this era of players for England it was clear as Crystal glass that carrick needed to start to play as a cdm and to rotate two off scholes gerrard or lampardโฆ it clearly didnโt work,โฆ
When Pirlo ended his career he praised Gattuso for making it possible. Gattusos response: "You shouldn't mistake Nutella for dogshit." Makalele, Kantรฉ, Casmiro, Davids, the list goes on. Their value is apparent when they leave.
๐๐พ๐๐พ๐๐พโฆ this was proof that its not really just about the high name profile but you need those players who do the small things that doesnt get praised
England in 2006 did ok, they only lost in penalty to Portugal, after Rooney getting provoked by CR7.
They had a midfield of J. Cole – Lampard – Hargreaves – Gerrard – Beckham With Hargreaves as the single pivot, and Rooney as a lone striker upfront. It doesn't have to be Carrick, other good DMs they have can do it. Hargreaves, Barry, perhaps Parker
Sadly Hargreaves was injury prone. And what Scholes mentioned was probably true as well. Carrick got better after he joined Man U in 2006. In 2010, England didn't have Beckham, Joe Cole form fell so bad, and John Terry at the back had scandals. So even when they played Gerrard & Lampard with proper DM in Barry, they still had many problems withholding them. And they seem like to be having ego clash, unlike the Spanish MF where Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, Alonso, Silva, Fabregas all could gel & play together to win
4-4-2 diamond with Carrick at the base, Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard (as a wide 10), Beckham as the other wide 10 and Rooney as the 9 would have worked.
Carrick defo underrated… but Scholes was…. my favourite player…. made the game look so easy… EVERYONE says the same…. Ben Foster tells that story about his first day at training….. he would be worth stupid money if a 21yr old Scholes playing now would destroy lol

If England had Johan Cruyff as manger. A box midfield of Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard, Carrick please.
Barry was better
Owen Hargreaves
Carrick
Beckham Gerrard Lampard Scholes
Rooney
Problem solved
Scholes the most ugliest, weirdest, childish and worst of em all. An unborn child can tackle better than him

Gareth barry would of been good in the middle too
England have one nothing. All we do is back-slap.

Then came Hargreaves, then came injury.

Imagine a 4-2-2-2
P.S and M.C
ahead of them S.G and F.S
Rooney and M.O/P.C
People tend to forget we actually did play Carrick.

When Scholes talks you listen, hard to say from a die hard Liverpool fan
Roy Keane is the player that england needed then.
Michael Carrick was the answer to that Golden English team.
He was about to say stevie you could argue….means he played good even out of position shoes how good a player he was….

England should've played a 4 5 1!
When Pirlo ended his career he praised Gattuso for making it possible.
Gattusos response: "You shouldn't mistake Nutella for dogshit."
Makalele, Kantรฉ, Casmiro, Davids, the list goes on. Their value is apparent when they leave.
Should have had carrick name down first in a midfield 3. Then 2 from scholes lamps gerard. Rooney should have been told to be a lone striker .
Kids these days wonโt get it. Carrick was our own Pirlo. Dictating play from deep without a sweat.
They should start giving the lad some caps.
So true, have said It for years- when they werรฉ playing. 3 players doing the same job in their own way. Never going to work, never did.
This just highlights how shit England managers were and didnt have the bottle to bench one of them for a player that was needed.
Fletcher also
Yeeeee'eeeerrrrr

England lacked a good manager at that time
Nail biting
English players have a very frank way of speaking out their opinion.
Michael Carrick is so underrated. Everytime I watch him play, Iโm always learning something. So great to watch him.
Michael Carrick wasn't that good I think English players even when they slightly good…. In the media they're world class
I don't think I ever watched Carrick n thought hmmm he's on that busquets level…. Guys Carrick was Average at best n I'm a United fan
Salute to Carrick! Your service to the club will always be remembered.
Imagine Carrick holding mf, Scholes no 8 and Lampard no 10 in 3 man midfield โค๐ #scary
Carrick was superb at Spurs….. Scholes sounding ignorant there.

Michael Carrick is my litmus test when speaking to people about football, if you rate him we can talk if you donโt good luck.
Carrick was great on the ball and poor off it, he had limited mobility laterally and smaller skilful mobile players used to run rings around him.
The English Makelele

If you listen closely you can hear he thinks Steven Gerrard was the best of them
