When Harry Maguire powered in that header against Sweden in the World Cup 2018 a new English cult hero was born. Following another solid season with Leicester City Maguire became most expensive centre-back in the history of British football by moving to Manchester United.

Four years later, Maguire is no longer an automatic starter at the club and is the subject of frequent social media mockery. So, what happened?

    All what you're saying is just a joke. You just couldn't say it for whatever reason and let me say it right on behalf of you. Maguire is the worst defender in the world. He isn't better than ben white, lewis dunk and fikayo tomori but still gets into england squad successively ahead of those players due to the incompetence of gareth southgate and the record transfer fee spent on him. That's it.

    When his own clubs fans are mainly responsible for the abuse he got, I hope man united struggle without him and he scores a goal against them with whatever club chooses him. he was and still is a good player, need get him further up the pitch as a strong aggressive player who can keep the ball moving up, just look at him at Leister and you'll see what I mean , not sitting in the corner of the pitch with no confidence.

    I am tired of all videos on maguire. He is useless footballer get him out of man utd asap. He don’t deserve to start for utd anymore. His error costed united a lot of games and the most recent one were against sevilla.

    The problem with Maguire? He doesn't know he is bad and not suited to Ten Hag's system. He insists on fighting for a place even now and refuses to leave Man Utd because he knows he will not get the same salary anywhere else. He is just using his England call-ups as proof that he is still good, instead it just shows Southgate's loyalty. He is staying for the money KNOWING full well he can't play well in this system.

    Maguire's main problem is that he's as inflexible as a player can be when it comes to style of play. The reason Mourinho coveted him, Ole ended up signing him for United and he always plays for Southgate is that he's excellent at playing in a reactive side without much ground to defend behind him, making his lack of pace a lesser problem. He obviously isn't a world-class defender but he helped improve United's general defensive stats in the 19-20 and 20-21 seasons.

    The moment Ole tried to move up the lines without a pressing striker, which overran a midfield that already wasn't good, and without a sweeping keeper behind the defense, he was doomed. Add to that how hilarious/baffling some of Maguire's mistakes were during last season and you got a easy punch bag.

    It has been a mighty fall from grace for Maguire, which is sad for him as a guy. However, many of his performances have been so abysmally bad that he should be looking for another career in any field but football. Just heard, though, that West Ham are prepared to pay £30 for his services! Really? They must be 🤪!
