For most high handicap golfers their struggles can be tied to three different categories. Now if you’re newer to golf or still struggling to break 100 you probably have a hard time with at least one (if not multiple) of these issues.
1) You don’t know how to practice correctly. You probably hit the range and work on your swing until the club goes straight. That actually trains your brain to get it right whenever it feels like it, rather than on the first swing. Like Will Robins said “Practice make permanent, not perfect”
2) You have unrealistic expectations of your abilities. You likely don’t truly know how far your clubs go so you get yourself into situation where you have to over swing or take risks and it’s costing you in the long run.
3) Bad shots and holes follow you and tank the rest of your round. This is largely to do with the fact that you don’t have a consistent pre AND POST shot routine. Most people are aware of a preshot routine but they don’t always do it. You need to do it the same way 100% of the time. You can add on to your success by developing a post shot routine as well. This allows you to think about and have feelings about the previous shot so you can leave it behind you and progress with your round!
