Why does it cost so much to get fitted for golf club's. TXG cost $450 plus then the club's have special shaft's that put the cost over $1000!!!
Got to plug Maltby clubs. I play a full bag and they are brilliant
I played on Saturday with 2 players with lower handicaps than me. Both had new and expensive drivers compared to my second hand Titleist. I had as driving lesson with the pro ast week and hit 12 out of 14 fairways and matched or outdrove them both all the way around. Lesson? Learn HOW to hit a drive before trying to buy success
The “Big” companies are greedy. I would never pay the prices they ask for new clubs.
Waiting for fairway wood from takomo since you tested them…. Any idea when they will be in the Shop?
I would like to see more comparison of new models vs same brands one or two models prior, is there really a big difference between Calloway Epic vs Paradigm or TITLEIST Tsr vs Ts or TSI etc
Prices of big brands are out of control. They should at least include a choice of premium shafts at no add’l cost.
Just buy last year's model, sometimes 1/2 the price.
What major brands pay pro's is crazy, TaylorMade is a perfect example. They pay their staff players millions and also pay anyone who shows up with their clubs in the bag a weekend fee. To combat the prices I keep a mix of old and new in my bag…..
I buy the best and brightest of the outgoing clubs. It's a great way to save money. The brand I bought was $300 cheaper for the driver than the current year.
Prices are out of whack. Callaway preowned is the best deal out there with 20-40% sales on like new clubs. In the states in store, one of the best values is grabbing prior year or demo Tour Edge Exotics clubs. You used to be able to walk in a sporting goods store and get a big brand set of irons for $500-$700. A driver for $200-300. I like what some of the brands have done with bringing back prior year clubs brand new like the Xhot or the M6 irons. For most average or beginner golfers that’s all they need
You get given so much golf equipment to try for free, multiply that by numerous others who get the same. Then there are the big names who get paid obscene amounts. We are actually subsidising you all.I never buy new golf equipment.
Lynx are a huge name back in the game as direct-to-consumer providers. Would love to see a review of the new Black Cats and Parallax
If people keep paying the prices the firms will carry in increasing the prices. Buy ex-demo older models for half the price or less and you can even read the reviews to suss out the duds.
I picked up a Titleist TSi1 driver in mint condition for £138 and it's the best driver I've ever had, I love it, an absolute bargain. It's always a club I've struggled with but this one I can hit pretty straight most of the time.
When I hit a new club (we'll say driver) I look for "next level" feel and performance beyond my current driver. If I get that, I'll seriously consider a fitting. I don't even look at price…..I simply want the "best" for me. The biggest issue for me; getting to try out a wide swath of brands. My guess is that most fitters don't carry some of the "cheaper" brands, that may indeed provide most bang for buck for most people. That said, as a Mizuno player, I think I'd be hard pressed to change. To answer the original question: I'm retired and soon to be looking for ways to spend my MRW (minimum required withdrawal) from my 401k. Money is not an issue……knock on wood.
I always used to believe you get what you pay for, and people who can afford that label will always buy it. The same with golf you are going to get the players who can afford the latest Irons or driver no matter what thier handicap. I see it at my club all the time, and when I knock my 22 year old driver 40 yards passed thier ball and probably because I'm a better
player I say who needs a £500 driver. You can still enjoy this great game with cheaper golf equipment and my advice would be rather than spending so much money on top range gear have some lessons because so many players don't mind spending thier cash on the latest brand when sometimes all they need is a couple of lessons.
Maltby irons all day. I also have 2nd hand 2015 Callaway Big Bertha hybrids (5 & 3), and a recently swapped by Callaway Rogue (2017) for an older Bang Golf 320cc driver that's beat up but is so easy to find a fairway with even if I'm sacrificing 10 yards off the tee.
I think the cost of well known golf club manufacturers is down to a number of things< obviously R and D, advertising and in my opinion not necessary to do, the enormous amount of cash sponsoring pro golfers? I have chased golf club sets for a lot of years now( 42yrs) and in the past I have been known to change a set of clubs 2 and 3 times a year, I must have had 30 to 40 sets of irons and to be perfectly honest I have never really noticed much difference in their performance, maybe a little higher certainly not much difference in length. I have just traded in Callaways for Ping G430 irons and the pings are lovely to hit but perform very much like the Callaways. I believe as you get older your distances are virtually the same what ever club you hit. When starting golf you can get a big difference mainley because you are improving.
Golf clubs are stupid expensive. No reason drivers should be that expensive.
I see quite a lot of Lazurus lately
I've have always bought used because of cost of clubs. My balls are not top shelf but I do use the ones that I find that are higher end. I also try and play the courses that are cheaper (20.00-30.00) for eighteen. But if I had the money it would probably be the higher end equipment and courses. Thanks
There is a lot of hype with the latest and greatest clubs, and we see it every year. I would like to see you test the latest driver / irons against those of a couple of years ago, which in its time would have been the latest and greatest. I’m just wondering what an extra 100 / 200 quid would actually buy you. Maybe team up with Golfbidder or whoever and get your hands on some ….
