There are golfers weak off the tee and second shots to green but have low handicaps because of their short game. However, if you're great off the tee but your putting and short game are weak, it's not happening.
This is absolutely not true if you look at the statistics. The guys that drive it long and straight and have the power to be hitting wedges into greens when others are hitting 7 iron are the ones who contend consistently. No knock on John Daly and it's weird that he was kinda the dude who started the whole bombing it trend, but he's wrong here.
Golf for score, yes I agree. When you're talking about scoring only. Lots of amateurs get a great deal of enjoyment out of being able to hit the ball a long way and still be able to find it. I just like walking along on a lawn that I don't have to mow
Why do you put your left hand under your right hand you putt? I tried this the other day after seeing your video and couldn't get a feel for it @golfslump
I used to only worry about how far I could drive the ball, would try to kill the ball from the tee box, most of the time putting it in the trees or water or just way out of bounds….. But now, I have slowed my swing way down on the backswing & I'm hitting way better shots now, but I have been practicing 50 yards shots & I've gotten pretty good at my chipping game, now time to praribe my putting!
Spot on Mr Daly – the result of the Open Championship last week is a case in point. Brian Harman ranks around 145 on the PGA driving distances list. A former USPGA champion, Tommy Bolt, once scoffed when told about a competitor's long drive, "The woods are full of long hitters"!
Actually, a lot of people say exactly this. Play a couple rounds and 1-putt every hole on one of those rounds and the difference in the score is obvious
100% agree. Competitive golf… even at the “social” competitive level (i.e. Saturdays with friends with a few $$$ on the line)… it’s all about staying outta trouble, GIR, chipping, putting.
But someone like me, who tryna build a consistent game, my range time is mostly long irons, hybrid, & FW woods… ‘cause those, at least for me, are the hardest to hit.

80% of the game is from 100 m so have a coupel of wedges and perfect your putts
Yes that is 100% true just look at Bryson he can hit it long but he can’t get by the pin on the 2nd shot
John is the only person that says this.
I agree
doesn’t matter how good the drive is if you shank your approach🤷🏽♂️
Yes very true, I've had countless good drives be ruined by a terrible iron shot into the green.
agree its about proximity to the hole in effort to score

Agree. Short game will make or break your score.

I agree. I focused so much on my short game when i was younger that I dont need a long game at all now.
