Could the Mariners TRADE Logan Gilbert to the Cardinals? There have been plenty of rumors that the Mariners and the Cardinals could be looking to make a trade at some point. The latest however, links the Cardinals to Logan Gilbert. The 2023 Trade Deadline is still a few weeks away so there is no guarantee as to what will happen. 1. There seems to be little, to no offensive strategy at all. Not even fundamental strategy for moving runners over, late game ABs, etc. Like take until ya get a strike if the pitcher has just walked two or hit a batter. Just swing from ya ass! Pop up, double play, inning over. 2-3 runners left on base. Come on Servais! Be GD manager!

  2. Yeah send us Jordan Walker, Lars Nootbar, and Donavan and call it a deal. Wed toss in Isiah Campbell just to be nice.

  3. The Mariners need to accept that they cannot develop hitters. Name one hitter they have developed and I'll name five outstanding pitchers you have probably forgotten about. The front office has known this for a decade (Pineda to NY for Montero, who was a top MLB prospect). I'd love for them to fix their developmental issues, but it's no secret T-Mobile is not good for hitters to develop confidence and perhaps there is something in the water. My wild idea: Just draft and develop pitchers and trade them away. No more high school prospects who stand as much of a chance as me buying a winning lottery ticket. Seattle can find plenty of quality starters in the woodwork in Tacoma. Go ahead, flame away but I think I am right. :/

  4. I know you love the idea of Brendan Donavan but here is why that idea scares me a bit. Yes, he is younger, but Donavan is almost exactly the same type of hitter as Adam Frazier and Kolten Wong have been over their careers. LHP, .275/.350/.400 with decent doubles power and 12-15 HR capability. And T-Mobile tore both Frazier and Wong up. Donavan doesn’t strike out a lot and he has a terrific contact rate (94th percentile) but his EV and hard hit rates are average and that is what the ballpark tends to suppress. Average or less power.

  5. I totally agree a trade including Gilbert makes little to no sense. The biggest reason is that St. Louis’ FO are notorious low-ballers in trade negotiations. They will very likely not offer more than one of Alec Burleson, Dylan Carlson or Tyler O’Neill for Gilbert. It’s the way they do business.

  6. My concern with the trade you mocked is Woo will be shut down within the next 30 or so days and will need to fill those starts in, Flaherty hasn't been healthy himself in 4 years, and Miller is going to have a cap himself, so effectively you are relying on Kirby/Castillo until the end of the season. I like the buy-low on Carlson, and Donovan would of course be a good fit. I think Hancock for Carlson is a trade I would consider though, keeping Gilbert is a must. Buy a bat/or 2 this offseason and keep your SP depth, you can never have too much and Ray coming back next season will only be a benefit.

I think the Ms stay pat actually the more I think on it, but Dipoto could very well pull a surprise deal for a 2B out of somewhere too

  7. Nope Nope and Nope. Since the M's WHIFFED on the free agent market last year they will be MILD sellers at the deadline. And all of this would be a mute point IF they had spent the money on a proven DH last winter. 2B would have been a hole on offense but the M's could have worked around it. Dont trade Gilbert to fix a 2B hole. And be more active in the 24 free agent market you cheap %(!#'s!

  8. Cardinals would love that deal but no way. See what they would give for Prelander Berroa and Emmerson Handcock. Both are slated to be ready next year ( if not this year ) and would help bring new exciting pitching to a team that would need it badly. No need to give away are pitching core.

  9. Just read the title of the vid and I SWEAR IF THE M'S DO THIS I DEMAND A REFUND ON MY GILBERT JERSEY

  10. Nice post and I agree with all you say. Donovan is likely gone bc Tommy is injured. Winn will likely come up after a infielder is traded, Dejong or Donovan. I consider Gorman a DH. Donovan is good, really good. Gold glove last year. One of those odd players who build up WAR from metrics most don't even follow. He has a very bright future, better than Edman . I'd think it would take more than Donovan though. I'm not a fanboy, just a mlb fan. I'm surprised Flaherty has pitched 100 innings or so without injury. If he can stay healthy, I believe Jack has a much beighter future that Gilbert. I'd accept the trade you mentioned if the Mariners could convince Jack to sign a reasonable contract. Two years for 30 million with performance bonuses. Keep in mind Jack has never had a paycheck yet. The Birds wanted to lock him down a few years ago but Jack publicly stated, "he will not fall into the Cardinal way trap" but he disnt say trap, thats what he meant though. He wanted paid and was offered dough but declined and expressed his displeasure in STL. If the Ms can get Jack to accept a sensible, 2 year deal, then trade Gilbert. Better yet a 3 year deal w a opt out clause. Jack would get his first big check and if he performed well he would be 31, which is still young enough for him to cash in a big boy payday. Donovan plus Jack as a rental is a rip off imo as Jack has stated many times he want to pitch somewhere in Cali. If Jack agrees (bc lets face it, he isnt big money now), then the Ms better do it asap. Flaherty is a concern but his stuff is ace. He's been pitching decent as lf late and for a typical low whip arm he has walked over 50 batters this season. Dude throws pills when hot could be a Scherzer in the future. Gilbert is what he is, a darn good pitcher, but he isnt going to strike out 15 or be a ace. Flaherty has that potential bc one of the best sliders in the game. Donovan alone is worth a solid pitching prospect or a top 10 middle reliever, Gilbert is more valuable regardless of what values analytics assign to them. Could work out well for both teams. Pardon the rant. Mariners may make out like bandits. Moderate risk w high reward potential. On the flip side, woulsnt doubt it if Jack had elbow inflammation next outing. Hoow not. Dude has had a rough start to his career. Seattle could be the perfect fit.

  11. I would not trade Gilbert and the M's would be dumb to do so. I would let go of Hancock first and foremost. Gilbert is a good young pitcher, and I know they need a 2nd baseman. But, Jose has been ok
