Golota is an amazing boxing case study. The dominant champions make everything look so easy that you lose sight of what it takes to get there. With Golota his career tells a story of a tragic tale of having all the talent, speed, size, skill but without the heart. And tragically once he got the heart the wheels fell off of everything else. Its really an amazing story once you peel back the ugly veneer of those two bowe DQs.
I really liked Chris "Rapid Fire" Byrd's boxing skills and career back in the day. He was a small HW who still could walk the walk with the big men and win.
What ruined that "After Lewis era" with Chris Byrd, John Ruiz, Lamon Brewster and Vitali Klitschko was that it was no unifications at all so the belts was all spread thin out and NO people outside boxing community knew who was the world champion after Lewis retired. No man was dominant enough to claim THE title between 2004-2008.
Not until Wladimir Klitschko regained a world championship and went on from about 2008 to 2015 people could say WHO the champ was.
Don King is a lot to blame as he controlled the title holders; Byrd, Ruiz & Brewster and he was in no interest to let them unify the titles and rather milked the belts for all the worth they could have on a lot of pointless title fights no one asked for. John Ruiz & Chris Byrd wanted to unify, but King stoped them at evrey turn.
Golota was robbed of the belt twice – second time in the fight with Ruiz. He is a might weird case – deserves a movie, just done by HBO, not Netflix… Netflix would make him black.
Andrzej Gołota, jest w Polsce uważny za dumę zwycięstwa polskiego boksu jak i zarazem też hańba i okazem hańby polskich pięściarzy.
Woooow
Great Video as always Rumny to remind us about that forgotten gem of a fight
Golota was a reall ballsy fighter.
The lewis loss really sent back his career.
Another one great video
Man I almost forgot about these fights
Thank you Rummy
I'd have to look it up, but wasn't Golota the boxer who had a breakdown during a fight? If he's the boxer I'm remembering, his management should have known of his condition and not allowed him to fight.
I’m convinced Golata was betting on himself or he was told to do it by the mob 🤷♂️.
Other than the Gypsy King, I probably could not name another one of today's champions. But Rummy, your storytelling is so enthralling that I must watch all of your videos!
Byrd touched greatness twice 👑 WBO 👑 IBF
Golota won. And women should not be judging boxing, wtf
Byrd doesn't want to fight and Golota is slow but methodical. The Pole won this
Jimmy young vs Ali and Norton next?
Golota must look back at his Bowe fights with huge regrets…he could of been champ and become filthy rich. He was a crazy ass dude.
Part of me believes that no sanctioning body in boxing wanted Golota as their championship representative. I think Golota did enough to beat Byrd in their fight. I'm not saying there was a huge separation between the two at all, but I think he did more damage to Byrd than Byrd did to him. I can understand the draw, but at the same time I think it was Golota's finest hour. It was yet another chance at redemption that Golota should have achieved, but it didn't turn out that way on the scorecards for him unfortunately.
Robbed in this fight and Ruiz.
@Rummy’s Corner you should do an in depth video on the HBO vs Showtime boxing wars.. Like network vs network. I’d also like to see one on journeyman contender heavyweights of the 80s – 2010s
Byrd never won a round in that bout.
Those 2 body shot knockdowns really cost Golota…at least one of them should have been scored..WTF? And the Ruiz fight was a joke as Andrew knocks him down twice and Ruiz get's a point deducted and Ruiz wins a UD? They just didn't want Andrew to have the belts it seemed.
Golota was good but his head was messed up. I never understood why he kept hitting Bowe below the belt. He had him where he needed him then started hitting him low wtf.
The IBF Chris Byrd era was a bunch of bullshit. He also lost to Fres Aquendo and got a gift decision too.
You betcha doesn't get said enough.
Where's this video about Haney's last fight?? I was about to watch it, went to the kitchen for my TV dinner and back and now it vamoosed 😧
Did you have a loma vs haney post fight up this morning and take it down? I thiught it was on my screen now gone. Maybe im gettibg senile idk
why did you delete your byrd vs loma video
Rummy, I was just in the middle of making a long winded comment and erased it. The quick and dirty is this: Did you ever play or hear of the Fight Night games from EA Sports? They were pretty good, hopefully they will make another one, one day. Boxing has lots of lulls, you could use this game to do simulation fights, just for some extra content (you can have AI fight AI)…. I know it sounds dumb, but some people may watch it and it's minimal effort for some filler. Hell, I made all the Rocky characters and had to add in some guys that weren't in the game…. Yada yada, just a thought.
Hi Rummy,I could have sworn there was a review of the Haney – Loma fight, what happened to it?
Patiently waiting on the new breakdown of BUD vs Spence!
Golota should have been a world champion in his career, he certainly had the skills and the attributes, but his weak mentality and discipline held him back from greatness.
I never understood it either why Golota resorted to low blows, as he was already winning those fights against Bowe. Glad you posted this breakdown of the fight, what a battle. I remember though when he walked out of the ring on Tyson, and that was Tyson way past his prime. He could have been a great champion if he had the mentality.
Rummy does know 🥊about boxing.
I wish I could get a Rummy bobble head!
Byrd should have been counted in 11th round cause he touched the floor with gloves when Golota was punching his body. Golota won no doubt.
