Leeds Rhinos star Cameron Smith said he was proud of the players despite the golden point loss to Hull KR at Headingley and admitted the team were left to rue missed opportunities in the closing stages that would have prevented the game going to sudden death.

I am dumbfounded by running a hit-up that had no potential to score a try or to make a drop goal easier instead of trying a drop goal. And in greasy conditions. Then, on that hit-up, we give up a turnover without taking a close shot at goal to win the game. It’s as if we didn’t realize the score was tied. Then, in golden-point time, we absolutely refused to let Hull KR lose. Here, have another go. Missed that? Don’t worry. Have another go. We refused to win a game we had no business losing, and we succeeded.
