Don't pick a fight with a grandpa. It's going to look bad if you get your a$$ kicked.
MAN WAS A MONSTER
Ryan's career length will never be matched . Sadly Jacob Degrom's career already looks to be over or at least severely compromised.
Chooooo chooo all aboard the Ryan express! Fireballer
Perhaps the best pitcher to ever live. Dude pitched in four decades unbelievable
best thing about that fight with Ventura………he wasn't thrown out of the game……… even the umps were afraid of him
there will never be great pitchers like Nolan Ryan Randy Johnson and other greats the baseball games of yesteryears are gone baseball of today in my opinion is not the same game as it was in the past just not to the same caliber. It's still fun to watch but it doesn't have that same vibe of excitement from the past in my opinion. I watched Randy Johnson live on tv pitching and hitting that bird that to me was epic and awesome who wants some KFC.
Superman.
Him and Randy Johnson are so similar in their career path.
The greatest and most frustrating pitcher who ever lived.
As an Angels fan, he is my all time favorite player in baseball.
No one will be a .500 pitcher with 2000 walks!
How about there will never be another Fergie Jenkins, who actually, you know, won?
Texas haircut? Absurd. In my entire life I have never heard that said, I live in dallas.
If you were to tell me to choose between Pedro Martinez, Fergie Jenkins, Whitey Ford, Randy Johnson and Nolan Ryan, I'd never pick Ryan.
Nolan Ryan was never dominant.
You keep saying wins don't matter unless it benefits your case for him. You brag about his 21 win and 19 win season and make excusses for him when he went 8-16. Nolan Ryan had some memorable moments and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame but he's overrated. The only reason he won over 300 games is because he pitched for so long. Win/loss percentage does matter and his sucked. That's why he never won a Cy Young. Jim Palmer was a better PITCHER. Throwing 100 mph is impressive but doesn't make you a Cy Young award winner.
"Nolan Ryan can be replaced by two 8-7 pitchers."
My God the amount of stupid in that man to uttter those words.
Wasn't he good friends with the Bushes?? Just sayin.
We need a Nolan Ryan movie. 🍿
Walter Johnson is the greatest pitcher of all time ever heard of him what about CY Young kinda durable ignorant 🤔 👹🔥🔥🔥
Spencer Strider would like a word
Great video! Thank you from all of us who enjoyed it. Now…
The fact that he only had 326 wins is astonishing. I mean that’s a lot but he had seven no hitters across 27 seasons. And I don’t think he hardly ever missed a start. Maybe I’m forgetting an injury but still, if he only had some run support, that career win total might have been half a hunnitt 🤯
Never threw the news paper, well not on his bike but put a car window. That would do nothing for arm strength
I think Paul Skenes will be the next Nolan if he stays healthy!
The fact that he never won a Cy Young is just mind-blowing
His whip didn’t matter
Greg Maddux peak was better than Ryan's.
In 1995, Maddux went 19-2 with a 1.63 ERA with a ERA+ of 270 that currently rates to be 7th all-time today.
Maddux has 5 seasons of an ERA of 2.30 or less. Ryan has 2. Even if we changed the ERA to be 2.50 or less, the numbers would stay the same (5 for Maddux, 2 for Ryan).
Ryan with his 2.044 SO/W ratio ranks 356th all time in that stat. Maddux with his 3.3744 SO/W ratio ranks 45th.
But sure, that stat is bad since Ryan played 27 years. Oh wait, Maddux played 23 years. Maddux had 5 years of SO/W over 5. Ryan has 0 of those. In fact, if we change the parameter to SO/W of 3, Ryan just gets there in 3 seasons. Maddux has 15.
Maddux > Ryan.
And that's not even going on Pedro, Clemens, Randy, Koufax, Kershaw and others.
Despite all this his all time best was a 142 era+ (he had a 195 era+ one season but I will get to that). That is just the trade off you're gonna have when you let a guy pitch 250+ innings and throw 130+ pitches. 142 era+ is great, but when players like Pedro had seasons of 200+ era, its hard to label Nolan Ryan as the best ever,
But his sheer longevity is mind boggling. Dude was reaching Cy Young levels of unbeatable records.
Here is the cross roads you come to, do you rather 250+ innings of above average pitching or 150 innings of elite pitching. Now according to his WAR, his 4 best seasons were all 280+ innings. His next best 2 seasons were in the middle of his career where he pitched less than 200 innings.
In one of those 2 seasons, he statistically threw his best seasons on a rate basis. A 195 era+ over 21 starts and 149 innings.
But besides that debate, other fun facts about Ryan, he never won a Cy Young, And depite pitching over 300 innings twice and several other times pitching over 250 innings, Nolan Ryan only led the league in innings pitched once.
The amount of work Ryan put into keeping his body healthy, would put most if not all the players to shame. 100 pitches? Ryan's line was often 200+. His worse injury before the last one of his career: bone spurs. Most pitchers these days could learn a bit about caring for their arms in watching his various documentaries.
The Incredibly durable arm + the gunslinger stance on the mound. . .And kudos to Angel's coach Tom Morgan.
Would've been fun to see Ryan against Barry Bonds(who should also be in the HOF).
lol, imagine thinking that pitchers winning is important. what fools. its all about fapwip%+&*@. How did those primitive apes ever play baseball? How can you possible judge a pitcher without using 78 metrics that didnt exist until 2 days ago.
Greg Maddux- 17 straight 15 win seasons. Even Cy Young didn’t do it. Wins are better than Ks, all day. In fact in every other statistic Maddux beats Ryan, other than Ks.
The queen of hard
Nolan Ryan= GOAT
