AAU basketball and load management issues in the NBA are more connected than one might think. Young players are coming to the league as injured as ever, while on-court decision-making is also becoming a problem.
Is USA’s youth basketball system to blame? In this video, BasketNews’ Augustas Suliauskas compares the American and European ways of growing talents.

Culture. That's it. Americans have poor work ethic in the younger generation. And it's enabled everyday, especially with upfront contracts. The European guys have en entirely different cultural upbringing.
I grew up In NYC 90s. Playing ball in Harlem was wild. Seeing kids lose money in games and playing in hard games etc. the new kids growing up are three point shooters only. Back then the 3 was a clutch shot. Today it’s THE SHOT.
This was the plan of the nba, they softened the play to make it easier for white players because they couldn’t compete when the nba was the nba. This is h ball being played today, all offense, no defense, and if you touch a white player or star player it’s an immediate foul. They allow the white players to play, while capping black athletes.
mfs win one champ and all of a sudden they takin over lol joke

7:35 these nuts in his face are on purpose you can't deny that
100% agree! Even MJ had to learn how to pass the ball… Kobe too…
Tactics always beat the single talent! Offense wins games, defense wins championships. 🙂
A sign of the declining work culture in USA. Think about Giannis and what his life was like before NBA. He said as much when they lost in play offs.
The non Americans appreciate the opportunity for generational wealth.
We need an ALL EUROPEANS TEAM
"STOP blaming the players because the medical staff makes the call" — didn't look that way to me when Kawhii and the Spurs were at it.
good content
30 years ago when we were bored we would take a ball and go outside . now when youngs are bored they just grab thecontroller and play console . The level of football , basketball etc is going to decrease in the next 20 years .
I’ll tell you why , because for decades whites and blacks have perpetuated this stupid myth that blacks are better athletes and that’s just BS , when whites decide to partake in any sport they as good or better than blacks … that’s a fact
Looks like Europe needs to get smacked down in the olympics again to remember who there daddy is.
The systematic racism in NBA has slowed down a bit so that it showcases that there's other talent out there.
I say this being a casual NBA fan from America that has never watched a second of Euroleague ball.
If I was a NBA GM, unless said player spent 5+ years of their youth in Europe/Asia; I would never draft/sign an American again, let alone someone who grew up playing AAU ball.
It's about culture. Our inner city culture sucks rocks and Europe's doesn't.
World Champions 🙃?😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂The World is not USA
The US system focuses on self gain and promotion. You don’t last in Euro as a young guy thinking like that. They learn team basketball. It is easy to see that some teams acquire the guys that are team players. That’s why the Nuggets look so good for the future, their two stars want to win, and seem as happy setting each other or others up as scoring themselves.
failing empire, can't even play their own game right. I guess collaborating in a team game is a bit like socialism..
just look at the American high school basketball videos, the kids are very excited, very theatrical, focused on boosting the ego and not the team, really ridiculous😅
This is so funny..the golden age of Fiba is considered the ers of the megastars like Oscar,Galis,Drajen,Sabonic etc..
Great video, but I have to disagree with the load management. It is the players' fault! Could you imagine trying to tell Jordan he can't play because he needs to rest??? Haha, he'd punch you in the face before letting you stop him from playing. It's absolutely soft, weak, bad for the sport, and goes to show why your average NBA player today has no killer instinct and is not competitive natured anymore. It's actually disgusting in my eye. If you need to rest, than work out less. Get more recovery. But you play every game or you don't get paid. If I was in charge of the NBA, I'd put the hammer down and end the madness. Instead, you're going to ruin the NBA record books and the night to night play.
Any justification for not playing games when healthy is a bad one and people need to look in the mirror when they make them. Can't believe I have to explain this in 2023? What's the matter with people these days.
US basketball is just like Czech youth ice hockey.
In europe is not every kid interested in basketball like in US. Only kids plays the game, which likes to play basketball.
Why do Euros always lose to the USA in the olympics? If they're so much "better"?
Ego is killing americans, all about themselves and being a highlight instead of winning
the reality is, many of those AAU hoopers ain't going to make the NBA; shit, many of them can't even shine at college lvl of basketball. That's why they needed those environments to produce highlights in order for them get more views on social media and attract nil deals.
U.S. is money hungry and money driven. That’s why there’s so many games both for the kids level (concession sales and hype) and the adults (Jersey and ticket sales). Plus everyone is looking for the next big star, the next kid who consistently dominates the game.
The American AAU model of a million tournaments and flying across the country is stagnating development of American players. It also increases injuries. This model has got to go but I don't know if the Big Money behind the AAU will let it.
Most of European players come from a former Yugoslavia, Greece, Baltic states and Spain, some Italian players. If you compare number of gold olympic medalists you will see which country gives the most of the best players in NBA outside of USA.
It's almost like the people connected to AAU ball have single digit IQ: they see a kid wasting 20 seconds of the shot clock to shoot a constested stepback three, and then tell him to do it again; they see a center who can dunk at 15, and dunking becomes the only thing he does on court. It's like they are blinded by flashiness, when their job is to teach kids to play BASKETball, not STREETball. These kids become "hoopers", but no basketball players: those come from Europe
Franz is a perfect example of this…
