Thoughts!! Would you go? I know I would
If I'm being honest, I dont think Ian would qualify. I don't think he has that level in his game anymore. Lee, I'm sad he didn't try to qualify. I think Lee still has the game to compete for a win.
Love the content but the slow zoom camera has to go 😂
Well, with LIV dollars these two don't have to worry about not playing in any Open. 😂
The majors don’t matter the moment they don’t have the best players by ranking and if many don’t have rankings, then the Open does not matter.
If you listen to the Rick Sheils podcast with Poulter. He talks about getting sponsorship deals for his team Majestics. Probably doing some deals then. Honestly without him and Westwood it gives more chances for other guys to get in and qualify.
Have the Molinari brothers ever played in Open at the same time?
what else could it be but Spite
As an American, I have rooted against Poults every Ryder Cup. But as a golf fan, I wish he was playing in The Open!!
Gonna ride a bit on @petemajor5693 – the R&A can decide for itself how to judge/rank golfers in the World. Never forget the world ranking points were originally created by IMG and sports agent McComack w/ the R&A's nudging, then got Sony pay for it – IMG was interested in a way to create "buzz" for clients – the R&A was concerned that not all the "best" were being invited to the Open due to the disparate tours…ironic that the R&A didn't watch some LIV events and say, these guys deserve "some" points, if, indeed, their objective is to get the best to the Open. I like Poulter. I feel for Poulter. Truth is, for all the love and service they've given golf in their home lands the R&A played the political card and not "what's best for the Open." Can't blame 'em.
No pommy gentleman can win this years open, it will be a Aussie – think Cricket results. lol I expect a few nibbles.
Scheffler has won one major. He gets talked about as though he has won 10 majors. His putting is rubbish.
John Rahm for the Open win.
In fairness to them, when they went to LIV, one of the reasons given was to be able to have more time off. Given they are paid so well by LIV, LIV would have to be their priority.
If attempts to qualify for the open would put their LIV performances in jeopardy, then they would have to consider giving it a miss as they've done.
Yes, they are older, their chances of qualifying are probably not what they once were. They've made their decision.
I think they deserve the respect for making the decision in what is best for them and not to be criticized and used as another opportunity to bag them and/or LIV.
Poults and Lee Westwood. I think both joined Liv so they could spend more time with their respective families but still earning bundles of money. Best of both if you will. I can see both sides here, normally both would be playing in the open but until they sort out this bs merger and the PGA gets off its high horse I could imagine the proverbial sticking up of the middle finger from some players will get more frequent.
Sounds like (maybe) they are rebelling (again?) about not getting in by the ranking system. Shove qualifying, I deserve to be there by ranking system…
If there is any major, LIV players should boycott, it will be the Open. The Open played politics instead of staying above the fray, when they didn’t invite GREAT Norman for the 150th celebrations. The Open played politics and chosen a side. The Open lost all credibility as a major after that. Imho
A 15 minute video on this, WTF. Who cares, rather see a couple of young up and comers rather than Westwood and Poulter, both of whom are well past their best and need to focus on enjoying their millions.
Thank God for the subtitles…
Bravo Alex !! I greatly appreciate you addressing the headline right off the hop !!! 🎉
You guys are losing me with these terrible ignorant takes.
They obviously felt having to qualify was beneath them, credit to Sergio and MacD for giving it a go. Used to support Poults and Westie but they so lost credibility when they bailed to LIV and haven't stopped whining since..
It’s not a merger
The deal will probably fall apart. It never made sense from the beginning
I can understand how people in Europe want to cheer for their favourites but these two in particular straight came out and said they were only going for the money. It’s highly unlikely either would make the cut, never mind challenge for the win. I’m cheering for connors.
RICKIE FOWLER
Brooks or Cam have a good chance.
It their decision to make. You don't live their lives, don't have their responsibilities or their commitments. Judge at your own peril.
Young boys telling older players what's what. What til you are near 50, then tell them what's what.
The open is only special when it's played in Scotland. Maybe they'd have tried to qualify then.
Just need to correct you Alex. St Annes Old Links has held Final Qualifying from 2018 – 2022 and not the regional.
Yes, you are saying it.
Who cares if any LIV player plays the Open or not especially the irrelevant guys like Poulter or Westwood! LIV has 3-4 relevant players and the rest are nobody’s.
Ian politer is an a$$hole. The open is better without plonkers that don’t want to be there
I say Rahm gets his first Open out the way. Rory comes to mind for sure.
Credit to Sergio for qualifying; even if he added another little hissy fit to his legend. Sergio should get a special invite imo.
But I totally agree I’m very dissatisfied with what Poults and westy did, or didn’t do. I get all the reasons but it is still super weak. It hurts Livs argument for owgr points if you think about it. I get they should get points and some LIv guys should be in already. But poults and Westwood not sure would have auto qualified at this point.
But the most unforgivable part is the qualifier was in Europe sandwiched between Livs 2 events in Europe. LIv once again did its part to make life convenient as possible for these players to do this qualifier.
But they just chose to be lazy.
Imo Westwood and Poulter both look very Unmotivated lately and this proves it. They are getting the last of their money is what this seems like.
It’s kinda sad.
But any arguments for poults to be on the Ryder cup team are kinda gone now.
Rahm, Brooks and Rory trading punches on Sunday would be A w e S o M e ⚡🔥💪
Yeah, in other words, they have no shot to win, so why even go
Rory … he’s due boys ⛳️
I turned the video off – got sick of hearing the other bloke say "obviously" – he needs to learn how to speak.
Rory or Rosey
If they don't to play in The Open, then that is their decision. It is their job… Their career… They are free to make their decisions. On top of that, these guys are not the youngest anymore. So they might be thinking that if they qualify, they might not even make the cut.
They are semi-retired at least mentally in my opinion. I think we'll see both of them on the Senior Tour in the future but right now they're not competitive against Scheffler, Rahm, McIlroy, etc.
Cam Smith to defend
When was the last time you played 36 in a day
If Majesticks win this week will you apologise to them
There were 19 qualifiers this year in final qualifying,, its usually only 12
Love both of those fellas but they are not exceptional players and never have been, its not a loss them not being there, life does on
So you’ve just taken a bucket load of LIV cash, have your new boat moored in Palma and it’s July – so the choice is a long weekend in Liverpool, probably in horizontal rain, or a week on your boat in the sunny Mediterranean … why are you puzzled?
These older golfers probably factored this into their original decisions to join LIV so now they’re just following through on their plans – but having to explain/justify them.
I have really enjoyed watching Westy (he should have won in 2009 at Troon but chased some sucker pins on the back nine) and Poulter in the past but I won’t really miss them and they are opening up spots for other new faces to come through.
Can’t really say the same for Garcia as his behaviour has been awful too many times and so, while see the golf talent that was there, he is not somebody that I wish to watch (spitting in holes, hacking up greens and bunkers, kicking his shoes around, etc.) – glad that a gentleman golfer is taking his place. Unfortunately he is a very poor ambassador for Spanish golf when compared with Seve, Rahm, Olazabal, Jimenez, etc., etc. and he should never be the Ryder Cup captain (behind the scenes vice captain is okay).
