  1. My swing thought has always been ball position with the club I’m using, 4/10 tightness of hand grip, take away with club staying in front of my body trying to keep club face closed at top of the swing, keeping my spine angle the same through impact, keep my weight inside back foot on back swing, weight transition to front foot just before down swing, now I have to worry about the U position with my trail elbow, all for me to chunk it 20 metres yeah… thanks for the extra thought Andy

  2. Pete Cowan tips work great with hogans elbow. I am glad you didn’t mention the rubber band feeling hogan always talked about with his hips. I feel that takes away from the elbow move. I focused on that rubber band feeling and it was bad. Your wedge under the trail foot drill was money for me, 3/4 swings with towel and that wedge under the heel are perfect for me warming up. That course you where at on magic elbow looked cool.

  3. Can wait to try this when I come home from work…just watch my on recoding and couldn’t figure out why my swing going to much out to in but the way you explain with the elbows and wring in the trail arm makes since 😀

  4. I finally got this into my swing by looking at the greats – yes you are absolutely correct – mind you I am a high handicapper with much work to do still !
    Good one !

  5. This guy (Andy Carter) is 100% correct. Not many people talk about what the "right elbow" does during the golf swing. It took me, literally, several years to understand that. And now I'm hitting the golf ball much better, and straighter. I don't care what my swing looks like going back. It only matters where your elbow is at impact.

  6. GREAT SWING LESSON. I watch a ton of vidoes on Youtube describing Hogan's swing and this was a very simple explanation of one of the most important aspects to solid ball striking. Well done Sir.

  7. Hi Andy, a great video, easy to understand and logical. I’d love to see an average golfer demonstrate this, see the improvement and just how it is taken up. I am 61 and chasing a more solid strike, understanding distance will come with a solid strike

  8. Hiya ! New to this game so what does ‘releasing the club’ mean? Is it when the club head is traveling at maximum speed? Thanks

  9. I went on trackman for a couple hours this evening, that made such a difference to my strike! Thanks a lot for this! Still a work in progress, but it always will be…

  10. You showed one short little clip of Ben Hogan at the beginning.
I wish you would have shown a bit more of that swing after you said your piece.

  11. Hit some on the sim tonight with this thought and it took my over the top issue away and eliminated my toe strikes. Now to burn that feel in! Thanks for the clear explanation.

  12. I’ve been studying videos of every type, and every video is contradictory to the last.
Here is something I haven’t found. How every element of the golf swing is timing, for example when does the trial elbow push to be straight? Sure hold it as you turn but if you hold it too long you lose speed.
Just like the hinge of the wrist, or hips, shoulders, knee, bend, there are so many elements, what about breathing? A technique I find helpful is Trying all the little tweaks, hit a ball or two, then try another and so on,
Then totally loose with minimal effort swing relaxed, often this produces great results.

  13. From a veteran swing coach, I applaud your efforts to bring light to this ultra important swing factor. Any disconnect from the inside, upper arm from the core, results in less than desirable outcomes to say the least. The only other thing I highly recommend is the Square To Square method of Mike Austin fame. As a result, all my students eventually wind up being better 'Swing Repeaters' than this old bag. ( me ) Keep up the great instructionals, friend.

  14. Excellent video. My trail arm has become an obsession for me. You watch a swing like Xander Schauffle's for instance, and he keeps his trail arm fully extended during his backswing for quite a long time before bending it. I try to mimic this because I think his swing is a thing of beauty, but keeping the right arm extended is not natural for me. Your swing, like Hogan's, encourages the right arm to bend earlier…as long as you keep that elbow tucked in pretty close the whole time. That is much easier for me to do. I hadn't though much about keeping it tucked in and bent during the downswing, though, until watching your video. I am anxious to try this out. Thanks for the video 🙂

  15. I've tried this before and it works well as long as one can rotate the upper spine properly – but for people with limited upper body mobility this doesn't seem to work so well.

  16. It's simple folks , once your right elbow touches your side you keep it there and hit the ball with your body turn with EVERY CLUB ! …. and after impact it doesn't matter what you do with your body or arms or hands , BECAUSE THE BALL IS ALREADY GONE !!! ….. JUST GET THE CLUBHEAD SQUARE TO THE BALL AT IMPACT, and you do that by hitting the ball with a turn and not with the arms or hands once that right elbow touches your right side …. but these worthless teachers don't teach you this , they just muddy the waters and hope you never figure it out , so that your always coming back to have them fix your swing ….. its a business folks, and without repeat customers their out of a job !!!!

  17. This guy is one of the rare teachers that actually understands and teach the greatest single simple lesson you'll ever need ….. once the right elbow touches your body YOU KEEP IT THERE AND THEN HIT THE BALL WITH YOUR TURN !!! AND NOTHING MORE.

  18. Are you casting your wrists at all? I ask because I sprained the outside of my leading wrist two weeks ago while golfing. I tend to snap the wrists on impact. I’m hoping I can change my swing to where I can get rid of the casting.

  19. Hi Andy brilliant at- last at- Last -AT LAST .some thing even I understand . my playing pals say my legs and arms move like an octopus all over the bloody place even my bowels move .and this is why I have had no control over my balls the last 80 years .Andy Son where were you when I needed you so I will keep you posted and I will be breaking 90 before I am 90

  20. Andy it is simple connection and keeping the left elbow pointing down throughout the swing. Nothing more

  21. Thanks for this tip, which seems to have improved my ball striking and distance. In particular hitting fewer fat shots. 👍

  22. I miss the course vlogs tho, would you consider a vlog with Lester Barnes? Would love to see y’all battle & banter each other! Also, how is the baby?

  23. The right elbow is everything. When I first learned the "Move", I shanked a bunch to the right, but once I relaxed my wrists, I was hitting draws with as low as a 9 iron. Best feeling ever.

  24. Hi Andy, started to hit the ball like a newbie and couldn’t understand why? Went to a different coach and he pointed out what you are saying. 30 seconds later I was getting pure strikes. Your lesson explains it really well and in more detail. This is a CLASS video if you want to pure the golf ball, no matter what HC you are! You have one one subscriber from me 🏹💥🐥

  25. hogan didn't actually do that. his arms increased separation in the start of the backswing. this enabled him to take the club back on the inside. hogan then flexed his right arm back into a very deep position, at the top of the backswing. in the waggle the digiti minimi and the flexor retinaculum, in the left hand, work as antagonistic opposites; and, this directs force into the right elbow, causing the arms to increase separation, in the start of the backswing. the arms then reduce separation towards the top of the backswing; and, continue to reduce separation in the start of the downswing. it's an enantiodromia sort of thing

  26. Love it. Works like a dream, played well for a few rounds then it went again with my irons. Re watched this and it’s back again. Now saved and will watch each time I get lazy again.

Andy is it same technique for driver? Apart from hitting up and not down. Cheers.

  27. Tried this rehearsal in the mirror as soon as I seen this video and noticed my new position at the top of the back swing and grew more intrigued, tried this move on the course and my ball striking was game changing, great video Andy!

  28. Just found your channel. Finally, a step by step guide without the unnecessary embellishments. Love your concept of teaching, and thank you so much for your contributions so everyone can benefit from this great game of golf. And subscribed!

  29. Keeping your trail arm close and tight might restrict you. I think one needs a bit of a gap between your elbow and your torso. Your thoughts Andy ?
