No, this video is NOT about the well known spin serve, that is already used by many top players but about a new variation, first shown by danish doubles player Marcus Rindshoj at the Polish Open 2023 and I think it has the potential to change our whole game of badminton!

  1. Its fault. Not allowed. We must hold the feather and hit the cock. Holding feather must use point finger and thumb like this 👌

  2. UPDATE: The BWF has just announced, that this type of serve will be banned for the next two major events (Sudirman Cup and and Malaysia Masters). If the serve will get banned completly will be discussed at the next BWF Council on May 29th (but I am pretty sure it will 😉) Here you find all the details: http://www.badmintoneurope.com/cms/default.aspx?clubid=4685&cmsid=239&pageid=5381&m=8672877
I am suprised how fast the BWF took action but I also think it is a good decision. What are you thoughts on it?

  3. I'm just curious, how come this was just "discovered" recently? We've been using these same shuttles for many decades now, hundreds of millions of people play badminton recreationally globally…but no one stumbled onto this exploit?

  4. To bad they already have changed the rules.

Think they should have given it some time and seen if the receiving part could learn to return it more reliably.

  5. I think BWF has been observing and deciding about this kind of serve longer that everyone thinks. And they are right to take action.

  6. This is just as controversial as Paddlegate in pickleball whereas some pickleball players are using delaminated paddles for extra power.

  7. Hello. I am a table tennis player, but I heard about this serve and got super excited about it because I love innovation in sport. In table tennis, which is a very spin oriented sport, you are not allowed to throw the ball with your fingers during the serve — you have to throw it with a flat hand. At first glance for me, I dont think the serve is unreturnable, because the spin effect that you are adding has its own predictable rythm. I think the physics of it dictate that it will flip at a frequency, albeit one that slowly changes.

  8. Here we go, BWF temporary banned this serve until a defintive decision is made : "The amendment to the laws of the sport now states that the server should release the shuttle "without adding spin""

  9. How to destroy sports with a net: make the serve count. In no other sports, the start of a rally is that disproportionally important.

  10. Being an avid badminton player, i completely disagree with these kinds of tricks to serve…. The art of badminton lies in speed, stamina with deception during play not trying to gain a point of the serve… Imagine every player serving like this and every opponent giving weak returns…which are finished off….It will kill the game….. These serves should be treated like cricket bouncers… 1 serve per player per game….
