Fowler has had a long way back, but back he is. He finished his third round at the Rocket Mortgage Classic on fire, setting up a great final day.
Rickie Fowler goes nuclear at Rocket Mortgage Classic, vying to snap winless streak
Rickie Fowler has been through a lot the last couple of years. He had fallen outside the top 150 in the Official World Golf Rankings and placed well outside the top 100 in the FedEx Cup points standings the last two seasons.
Rickie Fowler has a Tiger-like following at Rocket Mortgage Classic – but I don’t get it
On the fourth tee, Fowler got another earful from a large gathering at a raucous house off the fairway. After he spent an eternity making some kind of drink concoction — a fallback job in mixology probably isn’t in the cards — the fans chanted “Ri-ckie! Ri-ckie! Ri-ckie!” until he gave them a little wave.

Rickie Fowler, the fan favorite in search of his first win on the PGA Tour since 2019, entered play with a one-shot advantage at 20 under par over Adam Hadwin and two shots over Taylor Pendrith. Both chasers are Canadians. Hadwin became the fourth player in the five-year tournament to shoot a course-record tying 9-under 63 on Saturday. Pendrith played in the final pairing last year alongside eventual champion Tony Finau and finished tied for second.

Fowler has maintained a tiny lead over Morikawa and Hadwin (both one back). He’s 23 under with six holes left and playing alongside Hadwin. Morikawa is at 22 under but a hole ahead of Fowler, and on a course like this you definitely want more holes in hand than not. Both have two par 5s ahead (Nos. 14 and 17), though, and those should be a big factor in who holds the trophy.

Because inclement weather is expected in the afternoon, golfers will begin teeing off much earlier in the morning. Still, the expectation for bad weather shouldn’t dampen what should be an exciting finish. Sunday’s leaderboard is absolutely stacked with plenty of big names, including Collin Morikawa, who are still in contention headed into the final 18 holes. Morikawa looks to bounce back from a surprising missed cut at the Travelers Championship.
