Ping is trying with PLD Callaway with Toulon so makes sense TM would try. But they are as expensive or more expensive than a Cameron. People will still choose Cameron simply because they hold value.
What Scotty has done in the last few decades can’t be beat. Praise to the Anser, but it’s been perfected and he has made that cult following into the next generation already. The TM putters honestly look great, but they should’ve dropped the price $100 to compete and almost make a “gateway Scotty”. Even then, there’s so many used Scotty’s to buy and you know they’ll hold their value.
White stakes were the result of golf courses with home lining the fairways. Until then all play was lateral. So it was the Hey Golfer get off my lawn crowd that started it.
Tony what is your beef with Jordan shoes on the golf course?
My take on the launch timing of the reserve putter line: damage control to the brand. TM is getting a poor quality rep due to driver durability and need to show premium products and can’t wait until January
Scotty’s are just a status symbol.
so, the low scores are now attributed to technology? It seems like just last week MGS was saying how the golfers are superior athletes nowadays
That course lacked penalizing rough, so do most of the ones that people are saying technology has passed them.
Local shop just received their first shipment of TM putters. Following a trip to the range, my son and i headed over to the local golf shops putter corral to check out a TP Reserve B13. Handsome putter. Scotty level feel. I replaced my Bettinardi SS18 this year with a 'Super' Newport 2.5+. I love the feel of the ball off the new face vs. older model Newports. We went back and forth between a couple new Super Scotties and the B13. The Scotty and Taylormade putter faces have their own feel. I could love either. I think the TM B13 face rolls the ball better than the Super Newport 2. For me, the new Super lineup and the new TM face are much improved over the previous models of SC. I putted with the B13 for quite a while. The 'micro' milling on the TM face rolls the ball well, really well. Excellent feel and look. If i was dissatisfied with my 2.5+ for some reason, (which I'm not) I could step right in and use this putter. My son has an older Newport 2 that has sat in the corner for a few years now. He's been using a Phantom 7.5 successfully for nearly 2 years. The newer face on the 'Super' models rolls the ball better and has a better feel, to both of us.
The TM B13 was priced at $400, $50 less than the Scotties, pretty much same as the PING PLD's. Taylormade looks serious about this premium level milled putter effort.
The TM Reserve B13 is a serious putter. Fit and finish are top notch. Putter grip is awesome. Almost a pistolero plus grip, not quite as big. Putter cover is better than Scotties. Magnetic closure. Classy black leather with the Taylormade name pressed into the leather on the top. Everything is first class.
Taylormades' first effort with the B13 was impressive enough that my son finally traded in some hard earned Tournament Gift Cards for it. His initial course impressions after 18 holes were, "Wow dad, I like this putter." Actually, so do i.
I'll play Evnroll over Scotty any and every day of the week. I have both; Evroll has better face technology and the Gravity Grip, Scotty is "pretty" with old-tired tech.
Still using a 1960s Ping B60… I've tried to replace it but there just isn't anything that works better for me.
Your testing IS flawed unless you test the EXACT balls (a couple of brands) from 2021 in 2023 and correlate the results. If your methods haven’t change you’d get the same results (if golf ball aging can be ignored). If the results change, your methodology has a problem.
Could the Taylormades release of the putters coincide with the bad putting of their top tour players (Rory, Scottie) they may want to move back to a Scotty but gave this as an alternative
I’d love to see the ball test include a very high swing speed group (ie 125 chs or higher group)
I’m sorry but if you don’t want to count stroke and distance, don’t hit it OB. I don’t understand in course OB except for player safety but the course property is what it is. It’s the same penalty for everyone so play away from it or take your chances. I have no problem in non tournament play in taking a drop to speed up play, but it should still be a 2 stroke penalty.
only if they are Made in the USA Putters, not a Taylormade Chinese sweatshop!
Scotty puts our generic putters for a custom putter price, and they always fall short on feel and appearance. Then he puts out all black and charges more like it's special. He's made a career ripping off Ping, Bettinardi, Joe Toulon,
and people buy it like He's a God. I have a Scotty, but my Toulon Garage feels much more stable, solid, and soft off the face. Want a 303SS putter from Scotty to spend thousands on a Tour Only. TM and Toulon sell them much cheaper, and they don't lie about why it's so expensive. The cult makes him richer while he doesn't care about the public sales at all.
Id take a Tyson Lamb or LaMont Mann putter that can be done anyway. I want it vs. a Tour Only design scalper Scotty
Bettinardi taught Scotty his trade
I have no problem with guys scoring low on tour, hence don't believe that many courses should worry about being "obsolete".
Here the thing, there was one -10/60 score by Ricki on Friday – everyone freaks out. Otherwise there were only 18 scores of -7 or -8 under for the entire tournament. There's also a matter of looks when they play par 70 courses compared to scores to those on the par 72s.
BUT NOTE – there were 26 scores of 74 or more in the first 2 rounds (nobody mentions those) and 4 more from the guys who made the cut. If viewers really want to see players struggle, just add another option on ESPN+ & Peacock of players at the bottom of the leaderboard – see how many people REALLY watch that.
Scotty’s have proven that they hold their value
The purposes of the white stakes is to prevent you from playing from the backyard of one of the houses that are part of the real estate component of the golf course. 😂
Scotty is an artist, not an engineer. Having a scotty is the male version of an expensive handbag. There's no need for it. Generally at 20 capper poser is rocking a the Scott and 1 of 1 goofy headcover. Evnroll by contrast has some engineering calories spent on the design and manufacturing process. Plenty of other great putters at a massive savings (MGS had a Wilson $100 outperform all the scotty offering). If you play a scotty, never 3 putt… you're probably doing it right. If you're a poser… we're laughing at you
But how do you Mill a Jumping elephant?
I’m at around 104-105 at 49 years old now. I absolutely love my 23* 718 T-MB. I hit hybrids like 1-irons, unless we are talking like a high-lofted hybrid, but I don’t need a 25* hybrid.
Im around 100mph driver and I have no issues playing a utility 2i. I think people shy away because it’s common to hear that 2i is only for high swing speed. In my experience, it’s just not true. It is a very easy club to hit.
Not a chance. Its about the mythos of the clubmaker that brought the Tiger Slam to life.
Thats all that Scotty Xerox feather in the cap….and its a bigass feather.
I havent heard who designed this for TM? Any majors with these wands?
Driving irons are “specialty long irons.” That’s what I call them.
Tony likes having 2 in the trunk …ouch 😳🤣
That's one hell of a jittery oral fixation bub
Jesus tapdancing Christ… just stop with the whining about OB. It's an integral rule of the game. You don't like the stroke and distance aspect? Too bad. Hit it straighter. If it's too severe for you, stick to Top golf/driving range.
I just bought the scotty newport 2 plus and love it. No way taylormade can get that balance and feel.
I don’t understand these expensive putters. I can’t do it. Drivers, fine.
Meh, I'll stick with my Spider X Hydro Blast. That putter dramatically improved my putting since I got it last August. With the new Reserves coming out I'm sure there will be a lot of Spider GTX's flooding the second hand market. I plan to pick one up on the cheap in the fall.
Great episode, thanks
Let’s just make the game easier because people want to play faster…. Hit a provisional for a ball you believe is lost or out of bounds.
Don’t bastardize the game because someone told their spouse they would be home at a specific time.
TM Soto $199.99 vs $429.99
Hey guys, How about a set of forged oversize players irons????
Scotty’s are copies of other clubs all dolled up. They have nothing to worry about.
This Taylormade putter will be $250 in 2 years. It’s about bling. Putters are fashion statement.
Find an old Zing BECU and call it a day.
I did a putter fitting as I was getting yippy on short putts with my Rife Trinidad putter. I tested the one Evnroll Club Champion had, and several other brands. I had always said I wouldn’t buy a Scotty too much money and no face tech, it ended up being a Scotty special select 2 that I putted the best with by a lot. I putted the worst with the Evnroll, I was shocked at that as I believe in face tech and Guerin Rife is a good engineer. I do wish they would have more Evnrolls for me to try but I putted so well with the Scotty I knew I might match that level but I wouldn’t exceed it so I now own a Scotty and short putts are better than they were
I've got a Cleveland Classic 1 and 2 and 2 Scotty Camerons as well. The milling on the faces of the Clevelands exceeds the Camerons in my opinion
