There is nothing quite like the drama and emotion of the world’s oldest golf tournament.
After surviving the 36-hole final qualifying tournament at the start of the week, Lawrie created major history by storming through from 10 strokes behind on the final day.
The Scot eventually won a four-hole play-off also involving 1997 winner Justin Leonard and Jean Van de Velde – who had taken seven on the 72nd hole when a double bogey six would have given him the Claret Jug.
One of the greatest comebacks in the history of The Open Championship – still talked about today with much interest and excitement.

What an incredible way to close out The Open. What's your favourite Open from the last century?
This had the wildest finish of any major championship ever played.
i love these re-caps. just to set the record straight the last yr of the 20th cent. was 2000 not 1999.
One of the greatest Open Championships of all time and arguably the most exciting finish in major championship history.
