DiMaggio was notoriously cheap
George Steinbrenner once said "Good Day" to me once and I replied: "Well, I wish I could say the same, but I must say, with all due respect, I find it very hard to see the logic behind some of the moves you have made with this fine organization. In the past twenty years you have caused myself, and the city of New York, a good deal of distress, as we have watched you take our beloved Yankees and reduced them to a laughing stock, all for the glorification of your massive ego!"
Billy Crystal tells a couple of Dimaggio stories in his bio that aren't at all flattering. He feels that Willie Mays was a better ballplayer, coming from a Yankee fan.
What dry, bitter stories..
Id say dont quit your day job, reggie..
George Steinbrenner HOF
So, George was an a$$hole to everyone. Good to know.
I have no idea why or how Reggie got along with him.
Joe DiMaggio had specific instructions that when he was announced at old timers games…or just as him being at a game… they HAD to say "Greatest living ballplayer" before his name. THAT is how egotistical Joe DiMaggio was…..period.
Joe DiMaggio had a fifteen inch penis according to Pete Rose after Pete Rose saw him shower naked during their 1968 tour of Viet Nam which was probably 14 more inches than George Steinbrenner had!
The Man 💯
One thing for sure, George Steinbrenner was consistent.
Everyone needs to be yelled at once in a while, loved George, he was nuts.
The Yankee Clipper was from the Greatest Generation, all of them were "frugal" due to their collective experience in the Great Depression
Reggie is still fabulous….
lame guest and lame stories
I met Reggie in the late 90’s. I wish I hadn’t. Horrible guy.
Funny how Jackson is now a reserved, self effacing gentleman unlike the self absorbed arrogant jackhole he was 35 years ago.
