Golf Professionals Mark Linton and Colin Imrie go over some of the basic fundamentals of pitching from the Golf Nest. Tips covered in this video are as follows:
WHAT IS PITCHING?
– A situation where the shot is less than a full
swing and the ball needs to carry in the air
further than it needs to roll to the hole
– Anywhere between 10 to 70 yards from the
hole
THE LIE
– Use your SAND WEDGE for pitching strokes
SET UP FOR SUCCESS
– Same grip as normal
– Clubface slightly open
CONTACT TRUMPS EVERYTHING
– Solid contact
POINT OF CONTACT
– More weight over the lead foot
– Hands slightly forward of the clubhead
BALL POSITION
– Set up center stance
– Narrow stance
– More weight over the lead foot
CHOKING THE CLUB
If you choke the shaft, remember club speed!
CLUN CONTROLL
– Loft at impact
– Constant speed and tempo through stroke
– Do not be excessively “wristy” on backstroke
BODY WORK
– Club and chest rotate together in unison
WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION
– 60% to 70% of weight on lead fooT
– Keep your weight forward
IMPACT
– Down at impact, but with a shallow angle
– Clubhead low to the ground, hands slightly
forward
TRY OUT YOUR SWING WITH
VARIOUS WEDGES
AND SEE
WHICH ONE WORKS BEST FOR
YOU
