Tonight we’re looking forward to the Canadian GP and zooming in on the number 1 car with @LucasDegenthe host of the leading Dutch language F1 podcast @RaceReporterNL
Spanners, Trumpets, and Jules make up the numbers as well
Please ask Albon what he thinks of Hamilton when Albon was driving in a Red Bull. Hamiltons so-called clean driving style caused twice a crash that denied Albon a very likely F1 win.
Dutch people aren't critical. They are heavily chauvinistic and want to see their countrymen win and immediately portray that succes on themselves. That's where the idea of 'criticism' comes from. No one talks about how Max was lucky in AD 2021. It's like forbidden talk. And right now, ANY kind of criticism on Max is forbidden. He's fantastic, and perfect, everyone else is a chump and someone like Perez should never say he want's to win, the only right thing he can say is that he wants to serve Verstappen. Ricciardo was hated because he left and wasn't going to be Verstappen's friend which is what we liked so much in those PR video's and he wasn't chasing after his own ambitions, he was just afraid.
The comparison with Schumacher might be right even though it's slightly different. I think they Dutch would still come out for a GP and simply support the next driver. The German didn't see Rosberg as a real German, but Verstappen dispite never having even having lived in the Netherlands is still perceived of what we like to think as the most Dutch person ever). The comparison with Senna is unjustified since Brazil always liked F1 and their GP's have always been packed.
The Dutch aren't any different from most people. They want their countrymen to win and if someone's better, they drop them. The difference is that Dutch F1 fans don't care about other stories, they only talk about Max or Hamilton and the latter in relation of Max or just to trash him. And this is in part because of how content was made in the Netherlands. F1 was free for a lot of people because Ziggo is the biggest cable provider and they offered it for 'free' on their sportschannel (which every subscriber is obligated to pay for). And Ziggo didn't make an F1-show, they made a SuperMax-show in which they would never ever be critical of anything Max did while all opponents of Max are the most terrible thing on earth. Don't even mention shining a light on the perspective of the other side of the Max story of the day. And most journalists follow this exact idea of F1-reporting. They commit character assassination on all people that have different interest (Hamilton, Abiteboul, Ocon (yes, because of that one moment in Brazil where Max greatly fought Ocon as a backmarker), Perez).
Dutch aren't sports lovers contrary to what Jules said. They like seeing Dutch people do well. When it comes to sports, football is the only real thing we really like for the sport that it is and where we will also watch things Dutch people aren't involved in and will even root against Dutch teams or players. Stuff like cycling, ice skating and kickboxing are all niches. They don't get promoted like F1 with the whole storylines around how great one athlete is and how others are bad people.
RaceReporter is basically your typical Dutch F1 toxic podcast. They have one good guy on there who is someone called Jeroen Demmendaal. I mean what Lucas said about Hamilton crying on the radio… Max could say the exact same things and you wouldn't hear a thing about it. Further, the whoile 'best fans' thing is nonsense. He thanks the crowd. He never says 'best fans', just about the English. I think he also said it once about the Mexicans, which was probably about the expierence of standing in that stadium. But because so many people are saying that Hamilton says this, they apparently hear it even when he doesn't? It's kinda like the whole 'Luke I am your father', 'Do ya feel lucky, punk?' or 'Houston we have a problem' thing which is never actually said in those respective movies. You can dislike that Hamilton thanks the crowd, but then complain about thát and not that he calls the crowd the best fans (which btw at this point I wóuld actually do, just lean into it to mess with people, even though most wouldn't even get it).
When Lucas said he liked the Hamilton from McLaren, he basically means Hamilton who didn't profile himself. He just want's Hamilton as a personality to not be a factor. He probably didn't like Hamilton at McLaren either, but he wasn't a factor for Max.
If you think people clapped for Hamilton at Zandvoort, watch the interview Giedo held with Hamilton after qualifying. They were booing, like the have been throughout of Europe. It really was, again, the media who say what this went too far afterwards, the Dutch followed that and after the race clapped for him. But had Hamilton won there, it would be different.
Lucas liked Hamilton at McLaren? Why? Because he was so overly polite and media trained? The Hamilton hate from the Netherlands (the Dutch didn't cheer for Hamilton when he came there, Jam Lammers, the circuit director had to make a strong statement before hand to make sure people weren't going to do anything funny, because they definitely were afraid of that. And Hamilton got boo's at first and then after the race he was cheered, but only because there was a statement made that 'we' shouldn't do this. Actually, including the RaceReporter crew who had been hating on Hamilton massively about basically everything he does saw that they needed to be part of that statement and criticized people on social. But it was the most hypocritical thing, because they were part of that culture.
And let's not act like race doesn't have anything to do with it. There has not been one successful black Dutch football player that wasn't called arrogant or blamed for not feeling enough for the country. Hamilton is considered arrogant as well. While Max, that's your normal Dutch boy (never knew a second in his life that he wasn't a multi millionaire and didn't even live in the Netherlands, but ok). It's also not a coincidence that Honda, STR and RBR had to make a statement against racism after Silverstone. Because where they called him arrogant, and elitist, fake or whatever, the one thing they couldn't call him, they massively did (populist right wing parties are also very popular in the Netherlands and our prime minister has been convicted for inciting racist behavior).
I'm actually a Max fan. I truly think he's the best out there right now. I wish he was more than just a racer, because he's pretty boring apart from the racing stuff, but whatever. But that the Dutch media created with their Maxmania is just a very toxic influence on the F1 community. Proof of that can be seen right now. The Dutch don't have it for free (it was never really fee, but most could get it for free) anymore and the sport is covered in a more objective way, and the craziness for a big part if gone now.
The Amazing thing about Max is he is a 2nd generation driver. It is hard to be successful as a son or brother in motor sports. Max is the only driver who has achieved more than his father. Usually they under achieve. Ie Graham Hill was bigger than Damon Hill and Gilles Villeneve was bigger than Jaques. The 2 drivers mentioned faded away with bad cars after there tittle.

I really enjoyed this podcast, especially with Lucas in it. Love Racereporter podcast as well.
I've got a question for Spanners & Trumpets. What's the funniest F-1 race in history? Love you guys 👍
Did he just say about Lewis on the radio “stop crying”? That’s a bit rich…
Oh no! Dutch Helm Disease…and everyone else crying me a river!
Max is sooooo good. It's incredible.
Lewis is the only guy that can go head to head with him tho.

Do we not forget that Button only made that change because he wasn't able to keep up?

The main issue with Max is that he'll definitely give it, but he can't seem to take it (Ocon, Russell, etc.)… IJS
Lucas going Global 🎉
Max is just badass. You should have seen him in F3
