I am thinking of picking up either the G425 or the G430 4 hybrid. Any thoughts?
I go driver, Callaway UW’s at 17 and 21 degrees, then Mizuno JPX 923 hybrids at 23 and 26 degrees. Then I go into 7 iron. I’ve got plenty of speed, I just find the UW’s and hybrids much more forgiving to hit.
As a lefty Ping gives me the most options! Especially with the 7 hybrid, can’t wait to get some new clubs!
Never met a hybrid that didn't look ugly at setup, and these are ugly too. I'll stick to my 7 and 9 woods.
Hi Andy. Hybrids seems to be easier to hit. But what are they like in blustery weather?.
I've been playing hybrids for years and only carry 6-PW in my Irons, I love the versatility and dependability of hybrids.
Of the two that you are testing, I would go for the PING version every time👍👍
PS that location looks stunning👍👍
Have 110-115 driver SS and stock shape a fade with all clubs apart from any hybrid I've tried which all hook. So tried a 7w as a 3 iron replacement and perfect fades, small head much better in the semi rough. So anyone who hooks hybrids, give a 7w and even 9w a try.
For me the callaway driver looks stunning compared to the g430 driver and same with the woods but I have to say I prefer the look of the g430 hybrids
Hi Andy ditched my 4 iron at Christmas for a ping g425 4 hybrid now gonna get a 30 degree one so bye bye 5 iron!!!!! Nice one great video as always keep up the good work
I dunno, there seems to be a strange assumption that everyone needs hybrids. I’ve played them for years but I know golfers who are very similar to me but absolutely crush their 3 and 4 irons and can’t stand hybrids. I’m glad the stigma has gone but let’s not pretend hybrids are the as answer for everyone.
I've been a ping fan for years in the irons & fairway woods, Not so much in the driver. Because I hit
the Callaway so much more consistent. Great review, I enjoyed, what a pretty coarse. Stay safe See Ya!
I've had a Cobra 5 iron hybrid for years now as really struggled to hit my traditional 5 iron and then added a 3 & 4 hybrid to my bag. I'm a btter golfer now but still can't still myself going back to a traditional iron for 5iron+
Be great to see what your favourite “Cleveland” brand brings out in 2023 to replace the popular XL Halo HY-Wood Hybrid. Have a couple of friends down the local golf club that bought the Cleveland clubs in 2022 and they have all had great success using them.
As a 6 handicapper and an older golfer, I dropped my 4 & 5 irons for hybrids 3 years ago. Having played them (and my new 6 hybrid) over 175 rounds a year, I can easily say that ANYONE who is not playing hybrids is losing strokes. Easy to hit high, low cut, draw from fairway or rough. Lose the ego, play better.
Great watch Andy what a stunning course love those down hill fairways to the green
Nice one Andy. I've used 4 and 5 hybrids for several years. I do have a tendency to over draw them though. So a few months ago I swapped to G425 4 and 5 hybrids. I find them so much straighter in the flat settings! Not many makes offer that flat lie option. I had also noticed my 6 and 7 irons only gapped on average by about 5 yards. So I have just added a 6 hybrid too. Gapping is now much better and more consistent.
I would love to see more videos of your swing change 😊
Andy – you mentioned they were the same loft. The Paradym 5h is 24* and the G430 5h is 26*. 2* definitely accounts for the ball speed, height, carry and spin difference. Of those two I’d take the Ping all day.
I hit my 5i and 4i the best in my bag ha ha. Cannot hit a hybrid to save myself, however have just ordered a 7w as woods seem to suit me much better.
Great vid Andy – of 4 ish – Miuras 6-G SM wedges – but like you – 5 Ping G30 so versatile and high launch and great out of light rough – but also Wilson 4 driving iron Hybrid S shaft which is superb fairway finder – then 5 and 7 wood – game changers 👍👍👍👊
I bought a g410 7w a few years ago and loved it that much that I bought 5 and 6 hybrids to match. I've since bought a 9w and i210 irons, glide wedges and a tyne putter 🤣 not because I'm a ping fan per se, they're just such good clubs and so easy to use! The only non ping club I have is the mini driver, I don't like a big headed driver on a really long shaft.
I like my irons, I can see at some point, these may appeal however
Loved the review! getting fitted currently and chose the Ping G430 irons. Stopped at the 6 iron. Plan on finishing the fitting when I get the full set delivered. The Ping G430 driver and the Callaway Paradym drivers were neck and neck! Ping had a softer feel off the face and I ended up with the LST version in my hand. Both were extremely forgiving with mishits! Taylormade Stealth 2 was close, but lost on the mishits. Very interested in looking at the gapping and distance with the two brands. My fitter did not have the Paradym woods delivered at this time. I will not be surprised to choose the Ping hybrids for the 4 & 5 iron. Then flipping to Callaway for the woods. Currently playing a Callaway Epic 3 wood that smoked the Ping G430 version. My fitter even stated that is going to be hard to beat.
I might be jumping the gun, but I was wondering if you have tried the cobra one-lenght #5 hybrid (or similar loft as these two). The reason I ask is that I am thinking the shaft in the one=lenght should be even shorter, and I think that might be even better for a lot of people!
I'm a 70yo mid handicaper. I game a 4 & 7w, 4 & 5h. I've even been checking out a chipper this winter in the wet Pacific NW, US. Enjoy Spain Andy!
I dropped my 4 and 5 irons 5 years ago and now use 24 degree hybrid and 7 wood. Best thing I ever did for my game.
Clearly it’s the weight placement accounting for the differences. The callaway has that weight up front whereas the ping has it pushed back. I prefer the shape of the callaway. Ping sits too flat and is better suited for a more sweeping swing.
I have the Cleveland launcher XL halo irons and I ditched my 5 iron and 6 iron believe it or not for the g430 4 and 5 hybrid because they are the same loft. What are your thoughts on replacing 6 iron with the equally lofted 5 hybrid!? I’m a 20 hdcp. Thanks!
Being a 66 year young woman, I need the height to gain the distance, so I’ve pushed the boat out, and ordered a complete set of Ping G430 HL’s. 6 iron right through to the 58* wedge. Max driver, 7 wood and 5 hybrid. Cannot wait for them to arrive.
Love your videos, Andy. It's great to see someone like yourself review clubs in realistic settings rather than just on a simulator. As for the hybrids, I prefer the way the Ping looks at address. It's more subtle and looks better to my eye. I used to play with G410s and never really took to them. My misses were both ways and never could get confident with them. I'm now playing with Cleveland XL Halos which I really like. Much more accurate. Only reason I'm considering switching is I'd like to put a 30* in my bag and Cleveland's highest loft is 27*. I'm going to give these Pings a try soon!
I don’t like shinny, shiny goes dull, Matt stays matt
Great video. Please keep the solid material coming. As far as clubs go I have ping driver, ping woods, ping irons, a ping wedge, ping putter. I was attempting an all ping kick for a while which started with the driver and putter. But when it comes to the hybrids I tried and tried in every setting but did not get along with g425 hybrids. I think they are amazing clubs in the hands of better golfers than I. I do however get along pretty darn good with the 6, 7, 8 callaway rogue st max hybrids and the callaway 3 super hybrid. I am now considering a paradym 4 or 5 hybrid to fill the gap between the 3 super hybrid and rogue st max 6 hybrid. How would you say paradym 4 hybrid stacks up against a rogue st max 4 hybrid out on the course? I did have a chance to hit a paradym 4 hybrid on a simulator at a local golf shop and I was really digging the looks, sound, feel, and results. Is paradym the next version of rogue st max or are they two completely different lineups geared toward different golfers? Very confusing.
The problem is that clubs meanwhile became unaffordable and with that pushing golf once again into the "posh and snob" category, being a sport for rich people only. Honestly, I can not afford it any longer and have to get clubs from 2 years before (which you cannot get fitted for any longer) or used once, and that sucks. And as I never ever win anything, I really have to wait 2 years… Oh, and what a fantastic hole at 10:50. Would love to play the course!
I play a 4,5, and 6 hybrid by Mizuno and there really is no comparison to long irons for me. The hybrids are superior in almost every regard with the possible exception of digging a ball out of deep, thick rough. The hybrids provide decent angles, as you have illustrated, but the deScent angles allow for shorter roll-out, shaving strokes.
Have 4,5,6 G425 hybrids wanted a 7 in the same series no longer available so considering the newer version don’t know if it will be very different from the 425.
Have you had a chance to check out the 430 HL version?? Maybe compare to the regular 430? Thanks for all your videos!
