Hi I’m Matt Lockey, welcome to my Coach Lockey YouTube Channel. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, and to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf course vlogs, golf challenges, golf tips, golf lessons, golf club reviews and the odd golf club unboxing. So pretty much everything golf!

I want to help you play better golf by providing coaching videos on all topics about golf. How to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
As well as helping you produce the best long game you can have, I will help you lower your scores by chipping better, stopping duff and thin chips, pitching the ball closer and creating backspin like the tour pros. Finally, I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts too!

  1. Well done Coach. A great tip fpr playing in windy conditions. How would side wind affect the yardage?

  2. Hi Coach, very good tip, will definitely use on the course. When it's a cross wind is there a formula for working out how much to change start lines. Cheers

  3. Hi Coach Lockey love you Video 👍, love your simple wind maths 👍, I play on the coast & hope it’s windy when I have a match, we all under club in the wind 🤔, ( my launch monitor says I hit my pitching Wedge 100 yards) once we get into winter I can never hit it 100 yds on the course, so my winter yardage is 90yds ( and then do wind maths) by clubs 10 mph equals 1 club 👍, so now down wind is 1/2 a club👍Thanks Dickey 9hcp 76year senior golfer

  4. Cross winds …help🤯🤯..does it help does it not help always feel it knocks ball down 🤷

  5. I use this formula. It definitely is a good guide. I check the met office before I play.

  6. Ps Little side note, this is a rule of thumb to help you make better informed club selection choices.

    Hope it helps golfers 👍

  7. Hey Coach, love your videos, liked and subscribed don’t usually comment but was looking for suitable apps and the one you showed in the vid looks perfect, what was the app called?

  8. Great advice, but what about wind direction left to right or right to left? How to you gauge those directions without an app? Cheers.

  9. Today I hit my 140 yards club from 99 yards and only just made it pin high cause of wind

  10. Does rule 4.3 not forbid artificial devices to meaure wind speed and direction on the course during the round? OK to check before the round, but once the round has started, using an app to measure the wind would be general penalty for the first infraction and disqualification for a second infraction.

  11. Really interesting video, I was watching a match on Brian Bro's channel at the weekend and Matt Atkins (PGA Tour Player former?)was using the figures -1.5 yards for each mph of wind into, and +1yard for each mph wind behind. Thinking about it logically the higher you hit the ball, the more impact wind would have on distance, maybe PGA players are used to a higher ball flight?

  12. Wind is unavoidable half the season here. We played in a steady 25+ on Saturday with sustained gusts over 50. Was hilarious at times.

  13. Am I correct in saying that hitting into the wind will exaggerate my shot shape? So my baby fade turns a lot more.

  14. Awesome!!! I think dealing with the elements is something I wish I did earlier with my golf. It’s part of the fun and the skill! Thanks Coach! I love it.

  15. Unless the rules have changed, the use of apps in competition play is illegal. Of course that does not stop you checking the weather before you tee off.

  16. Useful,I’m off for a week of golf in Ireland in June and I’m expecting wind 😱What’s the app and is it ‘global’?

  17. Excellent and interesting video, great to see how you deal with and overcome those situations..👍

  18. great tip coach, playing @ RND every week we have to suffer some really strong winds sometimes 2/3 club difference & we just end up guessing what club to take.

  19. Not all that helpful. Just means I've got to do maths before I inevitably fat it 40 yards in front of me… 😅

  20. Wind gauges are against the rules I think when playing competitive golf. Nothing to stop you looking at a weather app before you start though 😉

  21. My NE England course is often buffeted by winds off or on to the sea. Adding a yard for every mph seems too crude to me. A 120 yard shot and a 170 yard shot are very different beasts. Surely you should be adding fewer yards to the shorter shots and more yards to longer shots. I judge the wind as a 5% , 10%, 15% or 20% effect wind and adjust accordingly. So, a 170 yard shot against a 10% wind makes it a 187 club choice, whereas a 120 yard shot goes up to 132. Tailwinds, I halve those numbers. Naturally, you need to calibrate yourself, but that comes quickly with simple experience.

  22. 56 comments and 3 days later but still no answer to what app you were using ?? 🙁 🙁 🙁
