Have you ever made a huge golf swing change? If so let me know in the comments.
To see my last huge golf swing change check this video out
I WENT FROM 262 to 320 Golf Drives. THERE ARE NO SECRETS

I think it is worth going down that road, Mark. Even if it ends up being a dead end you have introduced a part of the swing that many of us don't know or think about, and that could help someone out there. Your distance journey has given me ideas about my own swing and given me the confidence to try new positions or timing, but also giving it time to take effect. Rome wasn't built in a day etc…
Really interesting stuff here.
Also a cobra hat??
DO IT. DO. IT.
I LOVE this type of content!
Love it! This is the struggle, isn't it? Even someone, such as yourself, whom has loads of captured video content of your swing, can discover, or rediscover elements which may increase your abilities. Should you apply this changed to your swing? Absolutely. You can always return to a more 'safe' swing. Of course, change is hard. Unless your are Rory, or Adam Scott, (insert favorite swing here) we can all improve, if motivated. And, keep relearning. – I've found great value and relate strongly to your swing instruction. Thanks.
It would be great to understand whether a change in hip rotation would work in parallel with the elbow refinement.
Keeping your arms more in front of your torso is a swing change 98% of amateurs could do to improve their golf swing. The key exercise or stretch needed is not with your arms, they are more in front of your torso so this means less stress and flexibility needed. The main lesson here is Mark, in order to become the better golfer he is destined to be, must improve his turn and regain his sequencing with his lower body while making a better turn. The stretching and strengthening we should all be interested in is how to build muscle and flexibility to make a better turn more consistently. Then how to rebuild the sequencing coordination with the lower body with our new better turn.
Mark its great to see you keep expanding your horizons what is possible for yourself. My swing change that changed everything for my game was being to load deep into my left side and internally rotate. This allowed me to push as hard as I like off my right side. Prior not being able to get into my left side caused major issues with my back, speed and consistency. My driver was in ruins because i was always stuck and hanging back causing major issues. Now being able to get into the left side prior to releasing the club allows for much more freedom for everything. IMO Im not a fan of the jumping that you do – something looks off. If you notice tour pro's their body sequence – how deep they get before they turn- release the club. Then again I understand you got to move how your body allows…anyways I applaud your efforts to pushing the envelope to improve your game.
Athletic Motion Golf have loads of Gears videos. They're really excellent, especially the one they did that tracks the motion of the centre of the hips in amateurs compared to pros.

Great, informational video as usual! Keep em coming!
Golf is not always about hitting the perfect tour positions or in this case the numbers. As a recreational golfer, I would much rather have an ugly swing that produces consistent functional shots than be chasing an ideal that my body is probably not capable of achieving without significant effort only to gain 5-10yds. I can see how this matters much more to a tour pro whos livelyhood depends on being better than the next guy but it's not for me. 🙂
I rarely comment on YouTube videos, but this one deserves a massive thank you. I am the player he talks about but know I can change it (and that the swing will be almost un-golfable while I do) but no one teaches this way that I've found and this helps with actually SEEING the change and the feeling it creates,
You worked on the lower body movements, now go to yoga and get that upper body stretched…😂
Athletic Motion Golf are big users of Gears.Brilliant video, much more informative than most.Been working with the deWiz and setting a shorter backswing by keeping the hands further from the head has reduced the right elbow bend.Hard to work it out of the swing though !
Going through a change now, spending a lot of time on stretching to get upper torso fully turned – solves many problems (over the top, flexion, cupping etc). IMO advice on correcting symptoms like 'keep your left arm straight' should never be given before the foundation movements have been addressed. Great video!
I have very poor shoulder external rotation so I’m happy to watch you discover without trying myself 😂. I used to try and feel this by lacing fingers together and then making straight armed backswings. Makes you realise just how much of a stretch has to happen in your upper body.
The technical aspects of a golf swing are amazing and this is a great video. But can we talk about the autonomous golf ball picker??
I'm a right handed player, my last lesson I had with the Pro told me to keep my left arm straight and push the club away from the body in the back swing this helped to straighten the right arm, it works.
Very interesting content but got to call you out on the clickbait title, he did not give you a lesson they gave a "you're here, he's here" and that's it.
Excellent video Mark (and the boys). Go for it I say. The big problem will be sequencing. Major changes are always tough but it'll be fun to see you try. Good luck. 💪
The clock is ticking, Mate. By the time you make this comfortable (if ever), your physical condition will become the limiting factor. You can fight Father Time – by going to the gym, and doing a lot of stretching. Go for it!
Oh Mark you've went full clickbait. 🙁
This was a top notch video
I saw you getting a lesson and responding like anyone else… it doesn’t feel comfortable, but you see the data behind it and helps change someone’s mind.
You have always always said that when you get lessons it should be with data, so it can be backed up.
I would love to see another video like this!
I know this is type of content is not for everyone, but I love it. Youtube now has so much golf content: playing vlogs, reviews you name it. But I rarely see this technical info: gears, forces, angles. Mark you are the man to bring this forward. Would love to see a longer video/series on this topic, and also a way to compare with some of the best swings on tour.
As someone who shoots in the mid 80s I dont think this will help me go lower, but I just enjoy this breakdown.
That was fascinating. My one worry is the comment about hanging onto the wrist angles, either the concept is completely wrong or what the teachers mean when they say "hold onto angles" is not how I, as the student, understand it.
As a student my understanding of what angles I need to hold on to is always about radial deviation and that has never made sense to me. Radial deviation for the vast majority of people is the weakest movement of the wrist, why would you want to base your power on the weakest movement? I also cannot understand how is contributes to club head speed – I can see how wrist rotation or wrist flexion and extension through the hitting area would do so but not radial deviation
Would love to see a follow up of how you practice this move and how you try to make the sequencing work!
Coach did a vid on this a few weeks ago!
Great video … now face the challenge and smash it 👍
Mark, go back to your short about hip turn. Try to touch your right big toe with your left knee on the backswing. 75% of "90 degree shoulder turn" is hip turn. This piece is more fundamental than maintaining the right arm box, so get this better first. Also, remember just a little bit of medicine, not the whole bottle.
Definitely good series of videos to investigate but as for improvements it might only make about 10yards more 🙈
Definitely, continue. The setup these guys have is perfect. You are able to see so much information. But be careful, if Lou sees this, we will want all that data as well.
It was great meeting you there for the swing catalyst plates. I’ve been modifying my swing since returning and been battling not only my thoughts but also other people’s comments who have not seen the progress as the shots don’t go as well as they once did. So with swing changes and updating equipment I’ve gone from 230yards to 270yards with driver. Using gears now to help modify my body movements further and can’t wait to use this on the swing catalyst plates.
i can't get enough of this content….. i really enjoy seeing you work smart yet so hard on your swing….and you know you better than anyone knows you…. but rehabbing a torn rotator cuff is worse than rehabbing a total hip replacement ….. be careful my dude….
Very interesting mark ! Always loved your pursuit of the “truth” over the same old cliches
I really enjoy these detailed technical videos but I didn't hear any talk about numbers like club head speed changes with this movement. Did you see any change there? What kind of improvement in carry would you expect to see if you are able to make this change and would that substantially change your ability to score at golf?
Go for it Mark! What have you got to lose? I for one will be watching with interest.
Best of luck whatever you decide to do.
Will add distance but what about:

?
Do it anyway!
