  1. I’m an army veteran. My right shoulder is shot. My knees are shot. My back is shot. I couldn’t do that length of backswing if I tried. Luckily for me, I can still generate 110 mph swing speed on a 70% backswing

  2. New golfers should not listen to this advice. Hit it straight and your golf experience will go up. Only try to hit it long if you play from the back tees

  3. This is absolutely bollocks and actually quite frightening advice… tell that to 85 year old Steve, certain pros on your… making your arms over turn is mental, and asks for way to much to have to go correctly in down swing

  4. My issue has never been distance. It’s been a major slice 80% of the time. I have hit 350 before (mostly 300ish) if it goes straight, but I need to choke up and not swing hard to keep it straight. I usually hit 250ish doing it that way but hit it somewhat straight 60-70% of the time. Wish I could get that fixed

  5. Telling amateurs to increase their power without addressing the direction of the ball first is insane.

200 yards down the fairway is way better than 275 yards into the trees.

  6. Tony Finau? It doesn’t take a huge backswing to hit long, it takes proper lower body mechanics and lag.

  7. Amateurs fighting the game, never improving, should try Pipeline Moe Normans stance and set up. Easiest move in golf.

  8. Most of my practice swings are right and or left hand only to get the feel of my turn and tempo. Thx

  9. I think there is a huge difference between having a short back swing and having the club in a laid off position at the top. The “good/bad” image in this video like a poor illustration of this in my opinion.

  10. This isn’t true. Most bad golfer take to big of a backswing and cannot control their downswing. My advice is always to get control of a short swing, before cranking up a long backswing.

Also, I can swing just as fast short as I can with a long swing. For bad golfers, they cannot get speed because they don’t have lag in their swing. They usually cast early to close their face and not slice therefore losing distance.

  11. Nonsense! Most amateurs can't hit the driver because most teaching pros don't teach them how to shallow the club. If an amateur fails to shallow the club so that they can get into the magic position where the butt of the handle is pointing at the target just prior to release, he'll be wild as a rodeo bronco.

  12. Fancy doing a tutorial video while showing a backswing with the club face at the closed pointing at the sky at the top.
OK – DJ does that full closure, but you’re talking about amateurs who swing poorly and how you’re helping them…
    Sooooo….nope

  13. They arent relaxing their hands so they can’t reach the top of the swing and get the full elastic effect

  14. This is one of those one size does not fit all deals. As somebody with a relatively short backswing due to large biceps and chest, I still manage to average 290 off the tee. I remember an article where a teacher said they've never lengthened a backswing.

  15. I don't buy into that a longer swing equates to more distance. I am a scratch golfer who is vastly inconsistent over the years. My distance was the longest in my life about 6 years ago, when my swing was the shortest… the shaft only barely going past 12 o'clock (straight up in the air). My 4 iron was my 235-240 club then. Many swing changes and some years later, my swing is now longer, but my 4 iron is only a 210 club now. Lag can be achieved with a very short swing.

  16. Dumb video. So wrong on so many levels…distance has to do with width, lag, and rotation. You know better than this Eric…

  17. Not my issue at all… That doesnt help me actually hit the ball. When i make contact i hit it far. I'm a .100 hitter that hits homers

  18. I don’t like this advice, as someone who believes in keeping the club head outside the hands on the takeaway there is a MUCH better way to explain this. Notice the club face position he reaches when swinging “around his body” has the face pointed to the sky at the top… That usually happens when you have an inside takeaway, the club gets way too far behind you and the only natural move to square the face is to come over the top, which is what a lot of people struggle with. I fight that impulse BIG TIME and when I stopped doing it I shot my first round in the 60’s (-8, 65). The
The face should match spine tilt on the way back and wrist angle at the top for the majority of people aiming for consistency and maximization of their range of motion. The reason being is the hinge you create with the club face outside the hands puts you much more on plane and it keeps the club in front of you. You’re still swinging the club around your body, just without pulling the club way off line and compensating to square the face.

  19. Well I have a similar motion to rahm in terms of how far back I take it and I can bomb it, so I think this is rubbish fellas, yes it might help, but generally, if you have good speed they the ball it doesn’t matter about anything else.

  20. This is not why they dont hit it far! Jesus….such bad advice.

Literally two of the longer players ever jb holmes and tony F have very short swings.

Youre gonna confuse people and have amatuers over swinging like crazy.

  21. This is absolutely not true, and most of your average amateur shouldn’t even be swinging that high in the back. I’m hitting about 290 just the other day I accidentally hit about 310 with a hell of a lot smaller swing them with these guys are showing. All my shots were accurate, which is what matters the most.

  22. Their advice is good only if the golfer can continually accelerate the clubhead through the ball. But majority of players would do better with a shorter backswing and longer follow through.
