Call it a parting of ways, conscious uncoupling or just a plain, old fashioned not seeing eye-to-eye, but however you phrase it, Kyle Dubas is out as the Toronto Maple Leafs general manager after five years and eight days in the top job.

  1. Amazing how galvanized the Leaf fan base is on the Dubas issue. I put it down to Leaf angst. After-all the last time Leafs won a cup, Regular Gasoline was 8 cents a litre. (Ya I know it was sold in Gallons)

  2. Why is everybody blowing Smoke on the CRYSTAL CLEAR truth which is that Kyle Dubas was OFFICIALLY FIRED from his tenure with the Maple Leafs….he was Terminated….this was not a happy split…it was a Punative dynamic. History will only remember Dubas was fired then never heard from again.

  3. Dufas is funny…after he was FIRED he suddenly developed an affinity towards privacy. Smell ya later. Thanks for wasting core years from the core Dufas

  4. Dubas was given a team created with Lou and Hunter that just needed a little tinkering. He thought he knew better. He thought old school was old news and got rid of players based on his analytics he learned from playing the EA Sports video game. Finally, this season he tried to build a similar team but it was too late and he needed to go. When he was given the team a lot of the others in the division were weak and he had to take advantage of that. He didn't.

  5. Man i hope its another 10 years before leafs nation realizes its shanahan thats the actual problem… you cannot hand cuff your gm and then point the finger at him and hide for long

  6. There was a deal on the table. Dubas knew he was basically going to get re-signed since the trade deadline (when Shanny wanted to renew his contract). Dubas said he didn't want any distractions and wanted the playoffs to end. They eventually ended and Dubas wanted to speak to the media, which Shanny advised against. Dubas then mentions he's not sure if he wants to come back and used the family card. This was most likely all an effort to now demand more than what was initially agreed upon ($4M/year). A few days go by and Dubas tells Shanny he is good to go and that his agent will call him. His agent does call, but then asks for $6-$7M/year, 5 years and full autonomy with transactions. That was a drastic difference from the framework that was already discussed and essentially agreed upon. The "I'm not sure if I want to come back" was the first red flag. You need someone who is all in, especially this far in and when so many big decisions in a short period of time need to be made. Shanny then likely felt betrayed by the one guy he's gone to bat for when everyone was saying to get rid of him. After the call from the agent, it was over.

Its never to late to correct a mistake, ….its never to late to make to right…A mistake was made here. Was it Kyle Dubas agent, Kyle, Shanny? Dubas is someone I’ve always enjoyed listening to. He’s smart, articulate and often a lot more open than many of his more experienced colleagues. One of the brightest minds in the game. You will not find another like him right now. He cannot be replaced. I do not see anyone coming in and doing better. It is not too late to fix this mistake. The leafs have made the playoffs every year under his watch. The team has one of the best records in the league over the last 5 years. It just knocked off Tamp Bay this year and made it to the second round for the first time in over 20 years, Glass half full here. This team is good and getting better yearly. Fix this mess , you still have a choice….mistakes get made…learn from it……fix it. Meet guys, come on, do what's best for the team right now. Kyle and Keefe have done a good job here…..wake up!!!

Its never to late to do the right thing. A mistake was made here. Correct it, bring back Kyle Dubas. The best younger mind in the game today. If not only one choice, Brandon Pridham. The rest of the so called GMs, have done nothing recently… Some have not even made the playoffs….its comical listening to all the names being tossed around…., Brad Treliving, MB….lolllllllllllllllll……all below average….no upgrade here…wow.

  7. Honestly… Matthew Knies proved clutch ? People re:Leafs fans desperate for anything even if it's make
    beleaf

  8. Shanahan is a goon who should have been fired…also needs to stop borrowing my grandmothers sweaters for press conferences. Disturbing

  9. I just love how every maple leafs fan is all of a sudden a fucking expert on how to foster business relationships and manage an NHL team 😂😂
    you guys are too funny

  10. Leafs failure by the coach
Trying to turn Marner’s game from a setup game into a scorer this season, he was never the same in his play
Not having a good captain, I don’t know what Taveres was like in room but on the bench and interviews he didn’t act like a captain
For the last 30 games Sheldon Keith was mixing lines like crazy, guys could get no consistent play together, this affected playoff play
For 5 years Nylander having nothing to do with defensive zone play, coach couldn’t change him even benching him several times over the years
    Defence slow as hell

  11. After absolutely ruining the Calgary Flames, Brad Treliving would be a perfect fit in Toronto. ✔️

  12. Tough luck to Leafs. Shanahan just threw the team under the bus for his own ego. Dubas was on the cusp of a Stanley Cup. The team is that close.

  13. Heck put Don cherry,,GM,,😂,, now that's sports news,😂,,no matter who is GM ,,they lost again 😂😂

  14. Its odd, I haven't met one single person who ever thought Dubas was a good hire. So yes thats on Shanahan. Dubas was literally learning on the job & seemed to make every mistake available. EX. Salary cap was stable during the last 5 years. Varied from 81.5M – 83-5M. 4 guys on this Leaf team took up 50% of the available cap space leaving 40M for the rest. Simple math leaves 2M average for everyone else. Even the reasonable contracts for Morgan, etc – leave less and less. The fate of this team was decided the minute they screwed up the salary cap. You cant reinvent the wheel. I remember being excited when Shanahan was hired. My thoughts were Stanley Cup winning & prototypical power forward would get this organization sorted out. This team is the farthest thing from that imaginable.
