I never take divots. That's how I learned to play. I am self taught and have been playing 52 years now. Back when I was learning growing up at my parents house my father told me, I don't care if you practice in the yard just don't dig up my lawn. I've already proved to people that I can hit a ball off the concrete and not even mark the sole of the club. Every time I see anyone take a divot I cringe and look up and say sorry dad.

I am not a great golfer by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, I usually don't take divots when I'm flushing the ball either.
