With Bo Nickal’s UFC debut on the horizon, we thought it would be fun to post this throwback to when Bo took on Gordon Ryan. Bo was fresh off a u23 World Championships gold medal, and is one of the most decorated college wrestlers of all time. Gordon Ryan was the most dominant force in Jiu Jitsu and he hadn’t lost in over a year and half. This was a matchup both wrestling and grappling fans were excited to see!

  1. FloWrestling taint licking on Bo here is funny… And I’m a wrestler who is 100% behind Bo in Wrestling and MMA!

  2. im sure this way bo could take on any other martial art too….just dont engage.

  3. If you think about it there’s virtually no way Bo could have won this. He would never have submitted Ryan, and there’s barely any capability of him being able to take Ryan down to score points unless Ryan clowned like with that back give. A fair fight would have been a straight wrestling match with Collegiate rules. Then it would have been all Bo.

  4. Kind of dumb that the BJJ couldn’t use all his arsenal. I guess they all know that a wrestler “only” will lose to BJJ fighter too easy.

  5. Good matchup for views but trash for the viewers. Those dumbass rules killed the entire fight.

  6. So, the first time the wrestler had to defend any BJJ at all rather than disengaging and running away he immediately got submitted by the most obvious submission in the book.

  7. So basically an antelope running from a lion that has a broken leg the whole time in a locked room. Eventually it gets caught. This would have been about 30 seconds long if Gordon wasn't handicapped. No comparison

  8. This was basically a bad wrestling match until the final minutes. Showcasing why you need to learn both disciplines. Without Bo's suplex this match would've been all stand-up. Kudos to Bo for taking the match.

  9. The sad part is it reaply doesnt even look like bo wants to go to the ground in a grappling match…such a boring fighter

  10. She-it, I'll go against Ryan with a modified rule set
No leg locks. No arm bars. No triangles. No submissions of any kind. You know what, don't even look at me.

  11. What I can say is that getting rid of any types of guard pulls and all leg submissions is a huge disadvantage for Gordan. This is because the main thing different from BJJ and wrestling is that you can use guard and attack for submissions, some of the best being those attacking the legs. This made it as close to wrestling as possible with very little difference only being you can submit. What I'm trying to say is that this gave a major disadvantage to Gordan throughout the match.

  12. Jordan has a tremendous strength advantage because he's cycles anabolics like everyone else does in no-gee. Wait? Did I just call him Jordan?!

  13. I don't think the people here who ride Bo's dick in the comments know the devastating power of the leg game.

  14. that was painful to watch, i should have watched a craig jones kipping tutorial instead 😐

  15. Bro that transition into that triangle was crazy and the suplex at the end to try and break that grip is excellent
