Long par 3 are poor designs
That is a small green for a long hole….but… everybody is playing that hole. Not just the whiners. They’re pros right? Yes… they’re pros. And the course is in great shape.
It’s a new challenge…figure it out…stop complaining
Mate, at 72 yo, I struggle to reach 200 yard par 3's, into the wind! Nicklaus said a par 3 should be an iron, with bonus positions for accurate shots.
Its bad because it requires a perfect first shot to make birdie. That is not golf that is a video game.
Why shouldn't the pros have a par 3 where they hit a long iron or hybrid into? We play holes like that every week. The pros get upset when playing holes in the same way we play holes. Suck to up and find a way to play the hole. Play for the good miss. Golf should be difficult. I find players shooting 6, 7, 8 or more under each day boring.

Long par 3s should be bannned
I don't mind one long par 3 on a course but it shouldn't be longer than 200 yards.
having a par 3 that long is SO not fair! It only helps long hitter like Douchaumber and Koepka. Fuk LIV!
For an amateur this length of a hole for a par three is ridiculous. Yes, I agree. But you’re talking about the best players in the world here. They are only perturbed because the chances of them getting a birdie on this hole are slim to none. Well, boo-hoo, it’s Golf. The course is supposed to defend itself against the player. Not offer up every hole for an easy birdie opportunity. Us amateurs get 180-200 yard par 3’s all the time. I think it’s the equivalent.
A par three like that allows for a touch of luck. For someone to stumble and another to surge. It's not a bad thing. They should rethink their bag to possibly a 7 wood that will launch higher and spin up more.
You can make courses and holes more challenging in more ways than just making them longer. Seems these course designers need to educate themselves and actually do work instead of just lengthening holes. Drive for show and putt for dough. Make these long hitters have to play actual golf.

Don’t mind long par 3s in a bounce game. Not a fan of greens with run off areas everywhere. End up with too much luck involved

It wouldn't be much of championship if every hole was easy. If a pro can't handle a tough hole then they are in the wrong sport. Maybe they should try pickleball, or checkers.

As long as you hate the short par 5's that pros get on in 2 and 80% of them eagle it. Then it's ok to hate the long par 3.
You can have 14 clubs. The hole was not a surprise. They have the unlimited resources of the best club manufacturers and fitters. If they wanted they could bring a 6.7045 wood instead of a 5 wood.
Everyone plays the same course so it is a level playing field. Your score doesn't matter, it is just what place you finish. I play a course about 10 times a year that has a 245 yard par 3 and all my buddies love the challenge. You are the best players on the planet so just suck it up.

Some of the most elite players in the world complaining a hole is too long? Gimme a break. I can certainly understand upper, mid and even lower handicappers complaining but certainly not a elite touring pro. Just my opinion…
Really not a jon rahm fan at all. Never have liked him. He has thecattitude he has a god given right too shoot mid 60s all the time. Doesnt work that way. Also think his caddy is a dick tbh.
Most of them can reach it with an iron!!! What’s stupid… hiw usually play par 3 with a 7 woods for 220 yards… more difficult to have a 180-200 yards for an amatir than this 240 yards for a pro!!!
The hole is fine. What’s stupid are short par 4’s. If they can reach it in 1, it’s a par 3
I think it’s fine. They get plenty of drivable or 4’s on tour. Let them fight a monster par 3 once in a while.

I think you and the PGA tour need to stop nagging about a long par 3. Royal St. Kitts have 2 par 3s at 238 and 244 yards that have water and deep bunkers around them wit minimal spaces to miss. I honestly love to see players struggle on short par 3s. The long ones should provide more spaces to bail out which 11 does. So stop complaining about the Par3 and just feel bad you have poor weather to play it in.
It is a MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP so it should be the toughest test all year. Back in the 60s or 70s I think the Olympic club had a 220 yard par 3 for the US Open and the winner played short of the green each round and got up and down for par every round. He was the only player to net a score of 12 for the hole in 4 rounds.
USGA & PGA stop setting up stupid trick holes with stupid ass pin placements. It's idiotic to penalize someone for a good golf shot of putts that roll off greens. So f'ing idiotic.

Wildhorse in Henderson by Vegas, has a 3 par 250 yards, for amateur so tell the pros to stop wining.
What a bunch of crybabies. They knew the course set up well in advance. You’re telling me no one fooled around with a 9 wood or something so they could hit it high and land it softly? My criticism would be shave the front of the green about 40 yards. Give the players options to run one up. A great hole is usually one that can be played multiple ways
I don't think there's a player on the PGA Tour who isn't capable of hitting the ball 300 yards. They don't hit it 300 yards every single time, but they are all capable of it. There's no reason to complain about this par 3. You have to have a long course for these guys. Rahm was just having the rare bad tournament for himself, and showed his frustration about it.
There is a long par 3 that is memorable. Ask Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson about the 17th at Pebble Beach.
We have a 200 yrd par 3 up hill, 2 extra clubs, with prevailing wind into off the left. Bunker front left and a tree right in the middle of the fairway. Out of bounds down the right.😨
