Bunkers don’t have to ruin your scorecard, escaping them should be and can be easy you just have to follow a few simple steps and avoid some of the most common faults.

I’ve seen far to many golfers in my time coaching who fear the sand and so I wanted to create a video that addressed some of the most common bunker mistakes that golfers make.

If you can get some good basics, use the drills in this video then i’m confident that bunker shots can be a strength of your game and not shots to be feared

  1. Well done Chris the old school way was to aim left and cut across the ball but not now it's aiming square to target and it took me a while to get used to it but alot better now out of the bunkers 😊🏌👍

  2. Very good video Chris. Do you aim to hit the sand a precise distance before the ball eg an inch or two?
    Thanks for your help

  3. I'll have to try this. I was always taught open stance with open face – and it has worked. Let's see if I can do better with the new approach!⛳️🏌‍♂️

  4. I like many others, do not commit to a full swing for fear of not taking any sand, and sending the ball miles. so I tend to take too much sand and decelerate. So thinking about my finish position, as you suggest, should make me keep a better swing speed, can't wait to try it. Thanks Chris.

  5. Nothing wrong with old school, we all started aiming left and there should be no reason to change. Seve , Player and many more were very effective. Technology has not changed the way we play bunker shots, perhaps of course with the addition of 60/64 degree wedges. All the greats manipulated the 56 and practiced with 7 and 4 irons. That’s how we should be taught.

  6. Would love an additional video showing the technique for wet/compacted sand or when there’s a lack of sand

  7. Excellent video on getting out of the bunker. i took notes, headed to the course tomorrow to apply these techniques. Thank you!

  8. Why is there a need to open the club face? If you want more height why not use a 60 degree?
