Jordan Spieth is a win in the PGA Championship away from becoming the sixth player to complete the modern career grand slam. But as this deep dive explains, there’s reason to believe he never will.

  1. First.
Also, don't ever talk about my boy Jordan that way again.
    God Bless.

  2. Couple important things you left out here…

    1) Since there have been 4 major championships a year, only 176 different players have won majors…not 230.
    2) The PGA was a Match Play limited field event until they moved to stroke play in 1958.
    3) If we're comparing Spieth to the other 5 at 40 starts in majors…

Jack would go on to win 11 more majors (including 4 PGAs)

Tiger 5 more (including 2 PGAs)

Player 5 more (including 1 PGA)
Phil would win all 6 of his majors after the 40th attempt
Trevino's PGA win came in his 64th start

It's one to criticize Spieth's "major slump" with similar comparisons (or maybe winning %)
It's another thing to make a clickbait video not telling the entire story of all these historic careers…

  3. There's nothing "major" about these tournaments! They are old established and prestigious tourneys but certainly a lot hypes.

  4. Jordan seemingly has time on his side. I bet he does it. I also think Rory will eventually do it, too.

  5. The PGA was also a major championship. But since Jones was an amateur, he did not play in the PGA so he won every major for which he was eligible. And equivalent of today's Grand Slam did not exist, since pros like Walter Hagen were only eligible for 3 majors.

  6. I feel like the 2015 PGA was his chance. He played incredible at whistling straits, but Jason Day played even better. Who knows he’s not even 30 yet.
