BOSTON — Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery was not happy with his team’s effort Thursday night in 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.

“Passed up too many opportunities to push the lead,” Montgomery said. “We were a very non-competitive team offensively tonight. Turning down shots, not driving to hard areas, not winning enough battles to create O-zone time. So, that’s a good lesson for us to learn because they played well.”

  1. You could tell they spent so much time trying to shut down CM and LD(which they did) that it took them out of the game offensively. Also for some reason the Bruins don’t play well on extended rest this year. Good thing is we don’t have to worry about that anymore.

  2. He's right during the second period the B's just looked lazy like we're up 2-1 and we'll get another goal and we won't have to work hard for it and that might work with Anaheim but not most teams. And can someone get Coyle for one, and the others while we're at it too, to take the damn shot when they've got one and stop trying to make the perfect pass for the tap in? They better figure out that greasy goals are what flies in the playoffs

  3. Gryz, though talented is such a liability in D zone when he gets heavy pressure. Too small and can't muscle his way out of a lot of situations. I won't be upset if he is watching from the 7th floor in most of the playoff games. Mac/Hampus, Carlo/Orlov, Forbort/Cliffy.

  4. Every time Bruins get more time to rest, their first games after the pause are not very good. They look more lazy on the ice and their motivation is lacking. Goalie didn't bail them out this time. Hopefully, this will kick them right in the feels and they start playing all 3 periods again.

  5. They were too focused on Mcdavid and Drisital.. Oilers other players capitalized on the Free ice they got. And Won

  6. They gonna get soft in crunch time sadly the run was great but it all ends sorry Bruins fans the wheels are falling off now

  7. thanks espn plus for stealing this game…i would of been pissed if i was able to watch this. oh..fuck you espn.

  8. The bruins could absolutely destroy the league if they just played with urgency play like it’s the last hockey game you will ever play when a team is absolutely desperate that is when they are the most dangerous

  9. Not sure why he didn’t go with Ullmark over Swayman especially after a 4-5 day off rest period. I get wanting to rest Ullmark but you usually go with your best against THE best (even though CM’D and LD) were not factors in the game.

  10. Bruins didn’t play great but they played better! Our goalie did not look good in this game and yes offensively they should have had 6 goals but they didn’t want it

  11. I like this guy. Hope the bruins don’t lose the chemistry. Kind of odd when Kreci had the biggest hit of the game .

  12. Shoot the puck. We pass up so many good shots trying to get the perfect shot. The power play is a mess but looked better with Orlov

  13. Bruins won a lot of games where they got outplayed. Hope they are aware of that because otherwise it will be trouble in the playoffs.

  14. The good thing about an occasional loss is that this team actually improves from it. Time for another 10 Wins in a row!

  15. The Oilers put in a poor effort.
Hopefully the Oilers will pick it up next game.
So many players did not show up.

  16. Sadly when the Defense repeatedly gives up the puck and is out of position this happens and Can't agree more that they need to shoot more

  17. Coach hit it right on the head. Didn’t compete. Think this may have been one of their worst games of the year! Feel bad for the Redwings!!

  18. This was a three ic(k) game for the Bruins. Lethargic(k) offense. Anemic(k) powerplay. Pathetic(k) defense and goaltending.

  19. 1:12 "We sat back at times. Where we should have been pushing the envelope we were sealing the envelope" I've seen most of Jim Montgomery's pressers after losses and this is the most downbeat he's been after a loss.

  20. Classy of this coach to compliment the Oilers in that way. Historically the Oilers are a good match up for the Bruins. Bruins are 11-10 in the regular season with the Oilers since 2009. Lifetime Bruins have a pretty convincing record over the Oilers. But the real test is the holy grail…the Stanley Cup final round. Bruins are not a strong Stanley Cup Final team winning only 6 Cups since 1929. In fact MoneyPuck gives the Bruins an 8.8% chance of winning the Cup and the Oilers a 12.4% chance with Carolina running away with it at 16.7%. To summarize the top 3 teams with the best odds to win the Cup – Carolina 16.7%, Oilers 12.4%, Bruins 8.8% and it goes down from there. The Bruins have never beaten the Oilers in a Stanley Cup Final contest losing twice to the Oilers. Having the historical season Boston is having this year is most definitely a double-edged sword. The expectations and pressure to win the Stanley Cup this year is beyond massive. Bruins have losses with several western conference teams this season including the Yotes. Bottom line is the Bruins winning the Stanley Cup this year is far from being guaranteed.

  21. Is just me, or do the Bruins play lazy when Swayman is in the net?
I've noticed this over and over again.

  22. Luv what this coach has done. Our guys love playing Pro Hockey for the Bs. It appears they are having fun. But let's not be fooled by the regular season. The playoffs as we know is a totally different animal and the Rat, Bergie and Krejci are old by NFL standards and can't be counted on in every round of the playoffs. That is just not fair and name me one modern team that has had 3 guys in their mid to late 30s as core guys hoisting the Cup! This is 88's team. 88 has to be a Kopitar, a Crosby and Ovi. Mean, nasty and a timely goal scorer when the puck drops in the playoffs. We can't rely on Charlie M or any other of our great D,sure they have to help, and DeBrusk too, but it has to be the 88 Show. If not, we will fall short again and that is it for the Rat, Bergie and Krejci!

  23. As a Oilers fan that’s a classy response from the coach. Boston is still the best team right now hands down. Hope we see you in the cup run. GO OILERS!!!

  24. Like that Comment that Montgomery Quoted on Oilers Performance & Claps on Jim & Bruins GG 😉

  25. Oilers and bruins are my favourite teams and as I'm from edmonton they are my #1. Would've been happy with either result but that was a great game!

  26. The Oilers had a lot of room to skate because the Bruins were busy with Connor and Leon 🤣

  27. Outcoached because of the complete stupidity of starting Jeremy Swayman constantly over Ullmark and allowing Matt Gryzleck extended time on ice

  28. You know Oilers are 11 – 5 vs Bruins since Connor came into the league right? We shouldve won the last game in Edmonton too if Yamo didn't miss TWO tap ins at the crease, then Bruins get a horse shoe flukey goal on the winner…..Anyway the Oilers are the Bruins worse nightmare, their record is irrelevant against us. Just hope you dont meet us in the final, especially with our additions (Ekholm & Bjugstad), and Skinner is starting to find his game!
