In this video I discuss how to create lag in the golf swing. The ‘Lag Paradigm’ consists for most of trying to forcefully “hold on” to your lag as you transition. This concept is problematic.

It leads to excessive tension in the shoulders, elbows and wrists which ironically is what causes an early release more than anything else!

Creating lag requires a golfer to
increase the speed of their ARMS in transition. Most golfers conflate maintaining angles in the trail elbow with maintaining angles in the trail wrist. The trail arm should naturally extend as the club transitions and the arms drop. This in turn maintains the angle in the trail wrist ‘dynamically’ to create lag!

Remember the best players in the
workd drop their arms twice as fast and twice as far in transition than recreational golfers!

  6. Hi Andrew, I just saw a video about Harvey Penick's "magic" downswing move. It seems to me to tie in very well with your LAG video. For me it is easy to visualize letting your trail arm/elbow drop. Not drive it down, but move quickly. The move seems to maintain lag a little longer and keep the chest pointed a little away from the target. Do you think this is something worth trying?

  12. Just got back from the range… had a push draw going… I think I am still using too much body. Hard to keep that quiet…but when I did, I got amazing results. ??,,,do you bring the butt end of the club down focusing on your right arm doing most of the work and then unhinging the right elbow into the ball? Seems the right arm would be stronger than the left for righthanders.

  14. Excellent concept for the weekend warrior! I observe one of the things that separate the pro from the amateur is the pro's ability to separate their hip turn from their shoulder turn. A young pro, in their 20's, are flexible enough to do this and get posted up on the left side while their hands are still above their waste in the downswing. (Fred Couples is one exception, he can still do this into his 60's.) As the pro gets older, in his 30's, that flexibility wains and changes have to be made to stay competitive; Butch Harmon had Tiger work on this drill even before he turned 30.

  17. Good points. Actually, for me, when my club gets to the top of the backswing, I feel 90% of my weight moving to my lead leg and I hold that weight there throughout the swing. This eliminates the need to rotate much at all. I'm 70 and in good shape but I can't do all the things required in the golf swing so I KISS. I maintain my lag because that's important. After that I only focus on keeping all my weight on my front foot. With those two thoughts, most of my balls with all my clubs (not the driver) go straight and high. The driver is another beast.
