The Fortinet Threat Score assesses the risk of every hole on Tour and the 16th hole at Marco Simone GC is a classic risk and reward driveable Par 4. Last year, at the DS Automobiles Italian Open, the 16th hole established itself as a true risk and reward Par 4. The data laid bare the stark difference between players who laid up in the fairway and those who successfully drove the green:
The Risk
Average Score to Par of Players who unsuccessfully drove the green, across all four tournament rounds, was 4.00.
The Reward
Average Score to Par of Players who successfully drove the green, across all four tournament rounds, was 2.98. Players made Birdie or better 93% of the time when successfully driving the green
The challenge? A nearest-the-pin competition to beat the best drive at last year’s DS Automobiles Italian Open as Kalle Samooja drove the green with his ball finishing 6ft from the pin.
The result? One of the greatest shots in DP World Tour history…

Nice shot
Called it as well
Matt Scharff accomplished that feat no more than an hour ago
Why is everything black?
Hard to get closer than that! What a shot!
What a shame, all the other players had left, when he made his hole in one ⛳
Incredible
Damn, heck of a shot there, lad. That looked striaght as an arrow and it went in like a beaut.
Though these approaches are just as good, very satisfying when you risk a little and get it in the green rather than playing it safe.
Won a free bottle of water.
Such a great challenge! Cheers!!
