Welcome to the Sunday Morning Show.

This week I have made my way over to Seve Country – Northern Spain.

Seve Ballesteros is a legend of the game and I have headed over to Santander in Spain to follow in his footsteps. Taking a look at where he grew up and the courses he played and designed.

Lets have some fun.

Thank you for watching.

  1. Exasperating fellow that he was, for someone of my age, Seve was a total hero. People forget that he is responsible for the 'rebirth' of the Ryder Cup. His competitive desire was legendary. His short game was what made him my hero. He could literally pull off any shot except a straight one off the tee. He could also start an argument in an empty phone box but we have to forgive him that. His win at St Andrews in '84 is still my favourite golfing moment. Great show Dan and very poignant – thinking of Seve always brings a tear to the eye. That area looks amazing. Can't go without wishing Bernie all the best with his new ventures. I watched his opening 'proper' video and can understand why he has had to 'fly the nest'. It's a tough old world out there but let's hope it all works out.

  2. Hopefully Tom Watson likes your head on his body ☺️ Next time maybe use a thumbnail where Seve is winning the major rather than handing it over 😂

  3. Dunno if you're still sussing out YouTube #Shorts ideas, Dan, but that re-enactment of Seve's wall scaling endeavour would've made for a great one!

Really outstanding balance of golf and commentary this week, sir. Seems like a "Fam trip" provides a great platform for that mix.

And this video does encourage me to want to learn more about Seve Ballesteros. Seems like he and a golfer I do know a bit about, Arnold Palmer, had some qualities in common.

  4. Brilliant show. As a youngster Seve was my golfing hero. What he did to raise the profile of European golf cannot be understated. A true legend of the game and sadly missed. A trip of a lifetime for many golfers.

  5. Absolute tragedy losing him the age he was. I missed his best as by the time I was watching golf it was the late 80’s. Sandy Lyle’s Masters win started that but having read his biography and being a huge Ryder Cup fan I learnt how special he was.
Great content Dan. I wish someone needed me on a FAM trip. That steak looked tremendous!

  6. TSMS has evolved quite nicely into something subtly different 👍

Gorgeous place, and a fitting tribute to one of the greats.

  7. Seve will always be the greatest to me and was along with sandy Lyle the two that made me take up the game I started playing in 1984 so next year will of been playing this game 40 years

  8. Seve was my hero too. Lucky to get to know him a little and I have to say he had a presence like nobody else I have ever met

  9. Oh … bummer that I missed you at our club! … Santa Marina … yes, it is a bit of a hidden treasure. I remember commenting, prior to COVID, on one of your videos to come to visit here. Glad you finally made it. The course has made a lot of improvements (e.g. bunkers (like on hole 10 and 11), fairway drainage(in the winter rounds can be soggy), and removal of invasive plant species, etc.) over the past 5 years and it has become a frustrating pleasure to play.

I see you took a buggy … a must for those who aren't as mobile, otherwise an electric trolly is a good option (it is hilly) … I'm not that old so still carry my bags around for the extra exercise.

Anyway, hope you come visit again real soon!

  10. Is it just me, or does the course look similar to St Mellion, the nicklaus course

  11. 15 of us played a Northern Spanish tour in 2008, Santa Maria being our first after a night on the Rioja, as you said not a good idea, the worst idea was playing off the back markers after a downpour of biblical proportions on the drive to the course.
Our handicaps ranged from 3 to17 and in places if you didn't absolutely nail a drive you wouldn't carry the rough to reach the fairway, it was a brutal introduction to the area. The outcome was that was the last time we played the back markers on the other courses we played, all of which were in superb condition and made a welcome change from the Costas in the south, I'd recommend the area to anyone looking for a change to the normal.

  12. That display at La Pedrena is a disgrace. It's based outside the golf club on a road junction. I've been there and seen it. Toe curlingly bad. Ge deserved so much more

  13. Had the privilege and pleasure to watch Seve many times a genius. The course looked challenging and so green Northern Spain you could be in the UK!

  14. Seve was such a charismatic and truly great golfer. What he did for the game in Europe can never be overestimated.
