Here is the great problem the Orioles have…a wealth of infielders in the majors and minors. I hope they are able to make the best decisions as time goes on…
Finally. This stuff always happened to ex Os…K Brown goes to SD, D Stewart teaches him a splitter he becomes a star. J arrieta changes delivery with Cubs becomes a star. N Cortes flops as a rule 5 pick, Os send back to Yanks he changes where he stands on mound becomes a star
Im so happy for the kid…because when he was in SD, everybody in the fanbase and even the clubhouse, knew that he was more than just a "pair of fast feet". Every now and then, he would flash more than just two tools. And you'd be like "wow…if he can ever just play more than he does, everybody would see the kid has some skills. When he played for the Padres, he was the fastest guy on the team, period…faster than Tatis..faster than Wil Myers (who can scoot)…faster than HK Kim. And he had some REAL pop and some REAL defense. So, yea…hats off to the kid.
The O’s development team (especially for position players) is amazing. You expect busts with the prospects but their draft picks seem to all develop well. They pick up waiver claims and they reach potential like Mateo like Bautista like Cano. This is a future juggernaut in baseball.
O's fan here and my dad and I always said last year that Mateo had a lot potential and if he could hit .250 plus with his speed and defense he could play in almost any line up. Been rooting for him since last year as well since he was at one point highly rated but never lived up to potential and was eventually claimed off of waivers by the Orioles who had nothing to lose to let him play at the time.
The one thing I want Mateo to work on is his throwing accuracy. He has a big arm and uncorks it but can be a bit wild and extends innings. But I'm so happy the O's kept Jorge on the roster.
Mateo made the big leagues and kept his spot by being a speedy utility, now he is a mainstay SS with a powerful bat. i think Ryan McKenna is primed to be the next big comeup, hes been through the struggles, started the year as a pinch runner and backup defender in the OF, but he could become the 3rd outfielder for the Orioles
Yo this guy is my favorite player on the orioles i want him to stay for many years to come but it never happens so i will enjoy him on the team for now.
National media is gonna start talking about the O's regularly 🙏 They should. Theyre booming and its nearly a large market team. Most of MD, some of PA, DE, and even some VA (from the old days)
Lmao us O’s fans knew he was special but everyone acted like he didn’t even exist never heard his name mentioned once and know y’all surprised yeah we been knew he was good same thing with the whole orioles as a team in the offseason I was told by other fans O’s won’t make the playoffs they won’t finish better than 4th or 5th in their division and yet I was called crazy for saying the orioles would give everyone in their division a run at 1st place guess in last the bum ass Yankees I’m done being shit on as an O’s fan cause our team is good and we will win a World Series in the next 5 years I’ll bet a million dollars on it
In 2021 Jorge Mateo was the heart and soul of the San Diego Padres. AJ Preller DFA Jorge Mateo to make room for relief pitcher Matt Strahm coming back from a injury. One of many AJ Preller horrible mistakes he has made as a GM of the Padres. AJ Preller terrible at being patient and giving talented prospect a opportunity. AJ Preller is just obsessed with getting establish big name flashy players. Any GM could do Preller job with a high limit payroll takes no skills to give the most money to a free agent. Padres could had a lineup with Jorge Mateo, Jack Suwinski, Ty France, and Brett Rooker. 3 of the 4 was traded for nothing in return and Jorge Mateo was DFA. Preller been fleeced by almost every team in a trade except the White Sox.
second half i noticed he was getting better and there was some serious pop coming from his bat. It wasnt major but it was a significant increase from the beginning of 2022 and batting under .200. I cant wait for this to continue and prove the "regression is inevitable" crowd.

Mateo said Gunnar and Jackson Halladay better slow down. I'm still here and if you can't hit , steal and field better get out my way.
Orioles’ bench coach Freddi Gonzalez said this to Jim Palmer on Jorge Mateo’s talent last year: “If he can hit .240, we won’t be able to afford him!

By far my favorite player so glad I bought his jersey before the hype cant wait to see him continue to light it up on the o’s
It’s an exciting time to be an O’s fan
As all Orioles stars go……. He'll be in New York or the National league when his contract is up. See Machado.
It's a good thing that Mateo has been hitting this season since Henderson looks lost at the plate. Dude just looks confident.

I wonder if the O's will deal anyone at the deadline
Got to see Jorge in 2018 with Nashville. His speed blew my mind. To see him hitting this well makes me so happy for him!
The Orioles have been on an upward trajectory ever since that BUM Chris Davis retired!
Excellent analysis.

Props to Mark Derosa. Always doing great breakdowns and analysis.
Oriole Magic baby!!! Oh and let’s not sleep on the bullpen as we dont even have our youngest bucks up in majors yet!
Really, basically 1st good yr at 27, trade bate material, 🤔Jackson Holiday is the future ! 🛌☕ And why is the skirt there at all😏
DR proud. We are not done yet.
Great breakdown!!!!
My padres didn't have a place to play him
Teacherman hitting right there.

Phenomenal analysis, what an absolute steal (pun fully intended) that the Os pulled by claiming him from the A’s. So excited for our teams future!
Sooo glad we got to keep him a little longer needs to be extended ASAP
Baby birds making noise!

It's the dong bong
D-Ro, why aren't you a manager or hitting coach at the very least? Well played Sir!
The guy who spotted that at bat vs the position player, and then that's when it switched, definitely deserves some credit! What a spot that is!

I liked him last year and knew that he would turn things around.
We in Baltimore call it magic.

Love the coverage of my Os 🧡
Let’s go, O!
"Oriole's fans love Jorge Mateo"
Why does he miss every 4th game so far this season, especially being the best hitter in their lineup ?

1983 was a magical year. O's win the Series, Sixers take the title…. Fast-forward 40 years…
